I was wondering if anyone has had mets to the spleen. My husband was dx'd with stage 4 in June of 2005. In the beginning, there were only spots on the liver. He has been treated with all the combos of drugs including one that was used many years ago before for all the new treatments were available.

Currently, he continues to have liver mets although he was NED a couple of times in early treatment. In addition, he has mets to both lungs, some lymph nodes and the latest is the spleen. This was discovered after having severe back ache. The spleen is twice normal size and full of cancer. His most recent CEA was 421. He has also been losing weight steady for about two months. Yesterday he weighed 128. He weighed 164 at the beginning of the year.

There is now pain in the upper leg/hip area and left arm. Waiting on results of bone scan.

In my limited reading on this board through the years, I have not read much regarding spleen mets. Is this common? Has anyone had this and what was the treatment. Doc said that the spleen could be removed but would cause a lot more pain.

Any thoughts?
