Songs for survival

I find music to be very therapeutic with me. What are some of your favorite coping songs?

For instance, a good song to wallow to is:
Cold Desert - by Kings of Leon (http://tinyurl.com/colddesert)
Features the lyrics, "No one ever carried my load/I'm too young to feel this old"

Another song I like is also melancholic, but with definite attitude. Lyrics begin
"I want to be someone else or I'll explode" but by the end of the song there's a phrase that goes "You want me?/F---ing well come and find me/I'll be waiting/With a gun and a pack of sandwiches/I'm ready".
My own take of the song is of a guy on the precipice of life who says to fate: come and get me, then. I'll fight to the end. The attitude gets to me.
Talk Show Host - by Radiohead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeWCZpTTvdc)

So, again, what are some of YOUR coping and survival songs? The can be songs to cry to, songs to rage to, songs to inspire, songs to empower, etc.

    "Invincible" by Pat Benatar
    INVINCIBLE

    Pat Benatar

"This bloody road remains a mystery
This sudden darkness fills the air
    What are we waiting for?
    Won't anybody help us?
    What are we waiting for?
We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
It's a do or die situation
    We will be invincible!

This shattered dream you cannot justify
We're gonna scream until were satisfied
    What are we running for?
We've got the right to be angry
    What are we running for?
When there's no where we can run to anymore

We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
It's a do or die situation
    We will be invincible
And with the power of conviction
    There is no sacrifice
It's a do or die situation
    We will be invincible!

    Won't anybody help us?
    What are we running for?
When there's no where, no where we can run to anymore

We can't afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
It's a do or die situation
    We will be invincible
And with the power of conviction

Sing it loud and sing it proud!

I love music, I listen to all kinds but here are some of my favs. The fray- How to save a life. We are the champions, The climb-Miley Cirrus, Joe Walsh-One Day at a Time- his story of his personal struggle with alcoholism, Love Hurts-Nazareth, Michael Buble-Lost,I am 51 years old, when I listen to music from the 70's, especially my favorites, it brings back the intense emotions that I used to feel as teen. Wish I could write and play music.

    have you heard this song
My favorite group in Branson the Haygoods recorded this song. It is also performed by Simple Plan, it's called How Could This Happen To Me. The words describe how I have felt at my lowest.

Well - my iTunes is loaded with SOOO much music and almost all of it I am crazy about (the rest I really like a lot)...
When I am really stressed I will put my iPod on and listen to Bryan Akipa - Native American Flute music. VERY relaxing.
Sometimes I will listed to Chanting of the Mystic Heart - Sufi chanting.

    "The Happening" by The Supremes
    THE HAPPENING

    Diana Ross and The Supremes

"Hey life look at me, I can see the reality
Cause when you shook me, took me out of my world
I woke up, suddenly I just woke up to the happening.

When you find that you left the future behind
Cause when you got a tender love you don-t
Take care of, then you better beware of the happening.

One day you-re up, then you turn around
You find your world is tumbling down
It happened to me and it can happen to you.

I was sure, I felt secure, until love took a detour
Yeah, riding high on top of the world
It happened, suddenly it just happened.

I saw my dreams torn apart, when love walked away from my heart
And when you lose that precious love you need to guide you
Something happens inside you, the happening.

Now I see life for what it is
It-s not all dreams, it-s not all bliss
It happened to me and it can happen to you
    Once!

Is it real, is it fake, is this game of life a mistake
Cause when I lost the love I thought was mine
For certain, suddenly I started hurting.

I saw the light too late, when that fickle finger of fate
Yeah came and broke my pretty balloon
I woke up, suddenly I just woke up to the happening.

So sure, I felt secure, until love took a detour
Cause when you got a tender love you don-t
Take care of, then you better beware of the happening."

    ...And, keep your doctor's appointments!

    "Hero" by Mariah Carey

    HERO

    Mariah Carey

"There's a hero If you look inside your heart You don't have to be afraid Of what you are There's an answer If you reach into your soul And the sorrow that you know Will melt away

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

It's a long road When you face the world alone No one reaches out a hand For you to hold You can find love If you search within yourself And the emptiness you felt Will disappear

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

Lord knows Dreams are hard to follow But don't let anyone Tear them away Hold on There will be tomorrow In time You'll find the way

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you"

Even if you live alone, like me, "a hero lies in you!"

    Wow
I love Peter Gabriel's song "Don't Give Up"...but just seeing it here made my eyes well up. It's what I constantly want to say to my mom, who sees her death coming faster and faster, whereas we don't actually have an "expiration date" on her....I want her to 'please don't give up/rest your head/you worry too much/it's gonna be alright'. Okay, crying now...have to go!

    Hi AkAngel,
    That is so

    Hi AkAngel,
That is so sweet. You are a great daughter. You are an awesome caregiver. I recently lost my dad to esophageal cancer with mets to the liver on 3/9/10. I too love to listen to music. My dad received these relaxation tapes when he was dx'd. We got them from the HR Bloch Association. They sent us two great books on fighting the battle with cancer, Cancer there is hope, and a wonderful cd...all for free! He loved all of these gifts. He faithfully listened to his relaxation cd. I have a few songs that we played at my dad's memorial service. How Great Thou Art, My Way, and Amazing Grace. They all bring tears to my eyes and give me goose bumps. I also love a country music song by I think Keith Urban....Cryin for Me. Hope my experience helps you to know that you are not and never will be alone. Let us know how you are all doing.

Thank you...I've read many of your posts and you give a lot to this board. I came to CSN to get advice and help, but sometimes just reading other people's experiences help me know I'm not alone. My mom is often to antsy to just sit/lay down and listen to music, but I do a lot of listening I guess for the both of us. (((hugs)))

    Music
Music helps me cope too, my Ipod has been my life since my mom got diagnosed 10 months ago. I have found a lot of songs. Here are a few, if you need help finding some songs let me know!:)

(I put some good parts of the song below the song title)

    You're Not Alone by Saosin
    -You're not alone
There is more to this I know
    You can make it out
    You will live to tell

Again I Go Unnoticed by Dashboard Confessional
    - Please tell me you're just feeling tired, cause if it's more than that I feel that I might break.Out of touch. Out of time.

Arms Around Me by Hawk Nelson
    - When I hurt You, I never meant to hurt You. I'm just trying to work through things in my life. Emotions can be mean and I didn't really mean it. I never stopped believing in the truth. I'm not big on waiting. I could use some patience. This time I'm not afraid of losing
Wrap Your arms around me I know.Trying hard not to let go.Every time I stand up, I fall without You. When You wrap Your arms around me I know with me wherever I go. Nothing else matters at all when You're here

Do You Feel by The Rocket Summer
-I'm thinking about other things I heard about today
    All this week and tomorrow
And how these hands can create some better things for bettering
but you see for now I got my own things
    I can't help it
I got too many issues I own
So I cannot help I'm afraid, yeah
But keep on preaching, preaching and heal the world
Lip service makes us look great

    Do you feel
The weight of the world singing sorrow
Or to you is it just not real
Cause you got your own things
Yeah we all have our things I guess
Holy My Heart by Tenth Avenue North
-One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart?
One life, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Would You come close and hold my heart

I Will Not Bow by Breaking Benjamin

The Lost Get Found by Britt Nicole

Oceans from the Rain by Seventh Day Slumber

    Rain by Creed

    Audio hug
Chillout, from zefrank, written at the request of a girl who was having trouble coping with changes in her life. You can read the story behind it and then listen to the song, or listen to the song and then read the story, or just listen while you read the story :) It's a very sweet song, an "audio hug", as the young lady calls for.

If you go to link below, you can hear the song as you read the lyrics

    http://csn.cancer.org/user/112518/view/expressions?page=3

    Imagine” John Lennon 1971

This is a dedication to all cancer survivors & to the memory of the ones who have passed.
(I modified some of the lyrics below to reflect the hope towards a cure for cancer)

    Imagine there's no cancer
    It's easy if you try
    No hell to go thru
    Only a path to peace
    Imagine all the people
    Living without fear

    Imagine there's no chemo
    It isn't hard to do
No one would suffer or die
    And no surgery too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no deadly tumors
    I wonder if you can
No need for sorrow or tears
    All of us joining hands
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the joy

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Hey AK,
I wanted to correct my post from the last time. I had my country music singers mixed up! The song is "Cryin for Me" by Toby Keith. I think your mom would enjoy the relaxation tapes. They teach you how to breath to relieve stress, etc. They would make her less antsy! Keep up the good work. Thinking of you.
