Finally Going to See Gyne/Oncologist next Tuesday - What to ask?

After a long battle trying to get in to see an oncologist before I am diagnosed yay or nay I am going in to see one next Tuesday.

Many of you know my story of NHL diagnosed 20 years ago and only one recurrance 2 years later and NED since. Lots of side effects from treatments. Because of my medical history when they found a cyst and node by accident while looking for a kidney stone I was told by another gyne that I should see a gyne/onc instead of a reg gyne, as most on this and other boards told me to do as well. I am at risk under general anaesthesia because of heart issues so I only want to be put out once so would rather a gyne/onc do it in case when they go in for biopsy of the node and cyst they see something else, God forbid. He can do it all at once then and save me one anaesthsia bout.

So my question to you all is, what questions should I ask him in this first meeting? What should I know before I go in? I have had 2 pelvic ultrasounds that show the cyst has grown a mm or so on two sides but the node has not grown. It was first discovered in Nov of last year and still no biopsy date. It is a very tiny node on a small cyst. Questions I should ask please? Thanks. Blessings, Bluerose

    The first question I would ask is what the cyst shows in the ultrasound...solid or fluid filled???
    Gyn/Onc are busy and they will tell you what they think. I would not go into all of the other medical history unless asked. Your main question for this doctor is concerning the ovary, right? I have found that it is best to keep it simple and direct. Glad you are seeing a gyn/onc finally. Saundra

    My GP said that the cyst is filled with clear liquid which she said is probably good news but the node is solid and that is where the concern would be if any. But I will definitely ask the specialist too, thanks for reminding me of that.

    I agree I have to keep this appt simple and to the point however it is exactly because of my complex medical history due to having cancer before and all the treatments I had that I have fought so hard to see him. Actually I was told by another gyne that I should fight to see a gyne/onc due to my past history but I will keep it short as possible. Perhaps just saying just that that I was referred to one by a gyne because of my extensive history plus the type of cancer all lead me to a higher risk for a second cancer. But I know what you mean, keep it short.

    As usual I will make my notes for the doc so I don't miss anything and hope that will be sufficient to get my situation across to him.
