Tears we cry

I have heard many good things about shredding tears being good for us.
Shredding tears can help shred fears.
The more you cry the less you pee.
Crying helps to relieve stress and tension.
A good cry is a good cry.
Crying can be for the good and the bad and the ugly.

I came across a journal I wrote in 1998. During this time we had a real scare that my husband had pancreatic cancer. I spent a lot of time writing out my fears until we knew it was a gall stone blocking his pancreas and making him jaundiced and so ill. In this journal I wrote "May my tears water my soul and give me the strength to face whatever lies ahead". It was my mantra back then. I said it every day as I cried until we got the good news. I cannot believe that I forgot it. But I would like to pass it on to all my sisters and brothers on this board. It really did help me through a tough time. And I look at it now and see that tears can indeed water a soul and help your strength to grow.

    Recently, when I bumped into someone I had not seen in a while, I started crying.

    He said that as tears fall they turn into pearls and if you put them in a box, someday you will have a huge collection of pearls :-)

    That made me stop crying that day and I thought it was so sweet.
    I do cry though as we all do. Now, though mostly purposeful and not uncontrollable.

    That was beautiful and good for me to remember, as it seems like I cry alot lately.I just thought I was feeling sorry for myself!! But I was told that "tears help to clean the soul"!Hugs, Diane

    I had chemo on friday and it just seems like the following Sunday is so hard for me. The fatigue gets me down in the dumps.

    Thanks for your post...I know crying is a good thing, but it helps to have others think so too

    Absolutely beautiful, Stef! I have a better idea now of why your daughter is so artistic...

    I am not a church goer,or even one who prays, but I have studied the Bible for many years, and love its historical insight. In the Psalms there is a reference to God saving tears in a skin bottle. I learned that in those times, water and wine and oil were kept preserved by the shepherds and other nomads in bottles/flasks made of deer skin, or the skin of some other local animal. The skin would keep the precious liquid from evaporating, and would last until it needed to be filled again.

    It was explained to me that this Psalm means that God, in a symbolic way ,has all of the tears of mankind preserved in a skin bottle. He knows why and remembers each tear we have ever shed, be it for a happy or sad reason~ and that when, as the Revelation says "he will wipe all tears from their eyes", the tears which have been shed in times of fear, distress and sadness will be separated from those which are tears of joy. None of the tears shed has been ignored, or disregarded~ even when we feel most alone and perhaps abandoned. And when our faces shine with tears from laughing, well, those are the tears we want to keep!And that God knows one tear from another!

    I thought that was such an amazing explanation...

    Hang in there it does get
    Hang in there it does get better. This time last year I would not have been able to say that.

    Of course I don't mind if you save it...that's pretty much the whole purpose of putting it online and sharing it. When we find poignant and good things, it is only right that our friends and family "own" them too. I know I am adding Stef's watering of the soul to my list of wonderful things.

    May My Tears Water My Soul
    Stef, what a beautiful and inspiring thought. Very timely, too, for many of us. Thank you for sharing with us, as you often have, a source of strength and encouragement.

    Stef, I did not start to heal spiritually and emotionally until I could cry. My recovery required water for the soul. Thanks for putting the experience to such beautiful "music". Lynn

    I am so glad that this was a help. It truly helped me then and I am using it again myself. I find letting myself cry very difficult because we are ingrained to think it is a sign of weakness. Big boys and girls don't cry etc. And the truth is the opposite, crying is good for us. It does help release tension, fear etc. Stef
