My voice always gets hoarse when I have an infusion for about 2-3 days after chemo. Anyone else experience this afterwards? Thanks, Patti

    Yup
My voice gets really shaky like I'm talking through a rattle and then it gets raspy. It only lasts for about 2 days, but it's the weirdest feeling. I tend to get a sore throat then too. Isn't that strange how chemo can affect your vocal chords. I also notice that my eyesite is not as good as before either and I struggle to read or watch TV even with my glasses on. Do you have that too?

    Hoarse Voice
Hi Diane!! Glad to see you on here. Missed you.

My husband also has a hoarse voice after chemo. I'm always worried that it's part of the fatigue, but he says no. And his eyesite has definitely been affected, even wearing glasses.

I think my husband gets raspy too. Never associated it with the chemo, but he is still occasionally raspy. And, yeah, Diane good to hear from you, how are ya doin?

    Weird voice
Yes - for about 2 days I sound weird...like I am getting a cold. And if my eyes water it feels like glass cutting them.

I know chemo is supposed to be doing a good thing but I hate it! Today is the first day since Wednesday i felt like moving. I slept all afternoon Thursday and Friday.

I want a cold beer so bad!!!

No to Voice - Yes to Eyes
I don't remember my voice being affected too badly - I would always try practicing my karaoke when I could - probably "butchering" more notes than normal.

But my eyes would really sting when tears formed and they would really burn. They would water on their own sometime with the same consequences.

    Vision would be comprimised too...

Yes my husband was hoarse for the whole six months of chemo of 5FU, oxillaplatin and leucovorin.. it never bothered me in that way only the sensitivity to cold.

    My husband's voice goes up
My husband's voice goes up an octive after each infusion and his right eye goes blurry. The doctor expected the eye but not the voice.

    Weird thing with Jaw
Hello I'm brand new here and just had my first chemo treatment today. I wasn't sure this was the right place to ask this, but... I came home with the 5fu in my new buddy, the pump, til Wednesday. My question is, I have noticed when I start to chew something (anything) my jaw on which ever side I'm trying to chew on, hurts...kinda like I just bit into something extremely sour. It stops after a few minutes of continuous chewing, but this isn't a side effect that I have heard of. Has anyone else?

    Yes indeedy
    Me also.

Those saliva glands kick in when food is introduced and Yowza! It subsides as you said; a side effect from chemo no doubt.

So.. I am not the only one.

I sing. During my chemo and even after I lost my hair, I still sing. It's  my therapy. I thought I was the only one. But my voice started getting raspy after my 3rd chemo...

    Welome to the forum

You have posted in a very old thread, and we would love to see you post on the forum and introduce yourself  http://csn.cancer.org/forum/128 .

I was a pretty decent singer, mostly choir; but now, three years out from chemo, my voice is crap.  No more choir singing for me.

    Oxilaplatin did that to me-

Oxilaplatin did that to me- caused voice changes for 2-6 hrs after I had had it. It made my voice get super squeaky, much to my husband's amusement :) My onco had a term for it- hyper something. He said that its due to the muscle contractions that oxi causes. Taking calcium & magnesium the day of chemo and for several days afterward helped a lot with the muscular effects.

    Trying again

My other post has gone off to Admin.

I used to sing in a Choir (well, several over the years) but not any more. Chemo trashed my voice completely.

And here is the link to the forum page, Meggy, in case you want to post a new thread. This is a very old thread, with several now passed on to the big easy in the sky.  Until admin passes my other thread, here is the broken down version of the link http:// csn. cancer.org/ forum/ 128  The forum no longer allows us to post links until they have been cleared by admin. It hopefully stops allot of the trolls that find this forum a play area.
