Most of you know the story about Carter. To the few who don't know the story. Carter is a 5 year old boy with brain Cancer. Carter is home from St Jude and is not doing to good. Back in March I wrote a letter to our Chicago Cubs baseball team. I was asking them if they could arrange a visit with Carter with his favorite player Ryan Therioit. My first letter to them was not answered. I wrote a second letter. The answer I got was for us to contact Make A Wish. Now our Chicago Bears signed a football for the little guy, but our Cubs can't be bothered. Carter has already made his wish. I just wanted to add to his wish. What would it have taken this team to bring this child to a home game and introduce him to this Ryan Theriot. I don't get it. Every day you here about our sports teams doing good and helping when they can. Not Chicago Cubs. I am so angry about this and maybe I am out of line here, expecting to much. This child is so very sick, he may not be with us for very long and our Chicago Cubs can't make the time. Maybe I should write the Sox . I can't Carter is a cubbie fan.I can't seem to get this out of my mind. So please tell me do you think I am out of line on this ???

Hey, I say if you want to go for it then do it. Your not hurting anyone and who knows if you bug them enough maybe they'll come through and sign something for Carter. I never did like the Cubs.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt probably. They probably get so many requests that

they can't grant all of them, so, they grant the ones that come thru the Make a Wish

foundation, knowing that those are sincere and true. If I were you, I would contact them and

see what they can do, the Make a Wish Foundation. It is a great organization.

    Good luck!

maybe your asking the wrong person
but i probably would not shut up until i got my way (if it means that much) I think if you call directly and tell them your plight, if it doesn't work...keep calling, the squeeky wheel gets the oil!
    hugs, and God bless, jackie

    My suggestion...
I would contact them one more time. Thank them for responding to you and then explain to them that Make a Wish was fullfilling a wish for him already. Maybe let them know that he had 2 wishes he had a difficult time choosing from and now you are working on your own to fullfill his second wish that was meeting Ryan Theriot. Maybe explain how difficult it is for a child to pick only 1 wish in such a short life that he has left. Tell them how everyone is trying to pull together and allow him as many possible memories as you can give to him. I would even mention that the Bears signed a football for him and that wasn't even top on his list. Could they see their way to please fullfill his other dream. This may work with playing the sympathy card. Good luck and I hope it works!! :) Pammy

    I have an idea
What if you got more people to write and ask the for the same request, I know I'd be willing to do it.

    I think it's a wonderful that you're doing,

First of all, no, you are not out of line. And I keep little Carter and his family in my prayers, since you posted about him.

Do you know who the OWNER of the Chicago Cubs team is? You may get farther by contacting him. I'm sure that he does not want any bad publicity for his team.
I would also try contacting Ryan Theriot personally.

If that doesn't work, call a Chicago news station or radio station and tell the story to them. Again, I'm sure the owner of the Cubs does not care for bad publicity and it may motivate him if tyhe "press" is hanging around.

Good luck Kat, I know that Carter means a lot to you and I agree, the child should have his wish.

    Stay positive
Boy, Kat. I love the idea of your helping out Carter. I don't think you are out of line helping him get his wish.

I am really learning about staying positive, so my vote is to continue to press the Cubs in ways suggested by Cindy and others. Since you don't know all the reasons for the Cubs refusal, try not to get ticked off. Just let them know that "Dis a serious t'ing, mon," as my Jamaican friends would say. They probably don't "get" that Ryan has used up his "Make A Wish." "May I talk to your supervisor?" sometimes works for me.

    Chicago Tribune
Kat, I am just so sorry to hear that Carter is declining so fast. Was praying that St. Jude's could continue to help him.

Joe says the current owner of the Cubs is the Chicago Tribune. Now there is a business that is sensitive to public opinion! A Letter to the Editor might work. They can be sent online. Joe and I are willing to write; if others do, maybe the editors will respond.

Great ideas CR and Aurora, as to finding the owner and more of us writing. Asking for a supervisor is good, too.

    Write, Write what ever works
Great, What ever help I can get would be wonderful. I wrote to WGN Radio and WGN TV who are also owned by the tribune. Hey guys if we can get this Ryan Theriot to meet Carter, that would be the greatest. By the way, you all can follow Carter and his care at www.carepages.com under Carter Kettner. He is such a trooper. I look at him and I think if he can do this, then I can to. God Bless Him & His family.

    Not a puppy anymore
That's Buffalo Bruiser (We did not name him!). He comes to "Bru." He's my son's almost 3 year old yellow lab and he is so much fun. He likes to fetch rocks and he steals rocks from my garden all the time. He even has a chipped tooth from rock fetching. His heart is as big as the universe.

We also have a black lab named Shadow who is going on 10 years old.

    Aren't dogs the best!?!

    Yep, demonstrating...working on it...think positive. :)

Kat, I don't know if you mean Red Sox when you say Sox but I did email them when one of the guys at the group home was dying. I told them he had weeks to live. They sent Fenway dirt, a calendar and some signed baseball cards. I think they do probably get lots of requests for things like this. I also think it is very thoughtful that you are putting so much effort into it.

    Carter to Throw First Pitch!!!
Good afternoon! You will all be happy to know that Carter Kettner was invited by the Cubs to Wrigley Field tomorrow night (Wednesday, August 26) for a tour of Wrigley Field, and Carter will be throwing the first pitch of the game!!!

Thank you all so much for keeping Carter and the Kettner Family in your thoughts and prayers. For any updates you may go to his websites (not sure if I can post a website on here, but if you google Carter Kettner it's the top two links).

    Have a great day!
