Just when I thought that things were getting a little better..I am recovering from Rad burns and slowly (very slowly) regaining energy, just started back work light-duty......
My hubbie Bob got tangled up in Tootsie's leash and fell down our back steps. He fell hard and has broken ribs and is in alot of pain. Now i am realizing how much he has done with helping me around the house and the garden, lawn, flowers etc. I don't know if i will be able to keep up. I know i will try.

What I really meant to say sometimes I take too much for granted and should the shoe be on the other foot, well .... i hope i can do as good as he has.
LOVE AND HUGS, Jackie

Jackie, I am so sorry. And, your poor husband! This is just what you did NOT need!

Do any of your kids live close or maybe a neighborhood kid could help you out. You really

shouldn't be doing too much yet physical. You are still recuperating from rads.

Hugs, Noel

I feel your pain! When I had to take over everything here...well...you all know because I complained about it! I feel so badly for both you and your hubby! His injuries sound very painful.

Do what you can manage and leave the rest for another time. Don't exhaust yourself trying to keep everything up.

Love & hugs,

CR

Don't forget that you are just finished with rads. Is there a neighbor kid who you can pay to do some of the outside stuff? And anything that involves lifted etc. Is would be one thing if you were months and months out of treatment but you are not and you don't want problems with fatigue, your burns, lymphodema etc. Obviously your darling hubby can't do these things right now but you probably shouldn't be doing them either. See if you can get someone to give you a hand. And you are right, we often don't realize how much help our spouses are when they just jump in and do it. Mine is like that. He will just do whatever needs done and I am guilty of not always telling him how much I love and appreciate him. See, there's one good thing that came from this accident. My hubby will get a special dinner tonight and treated like a king.
Hope your guy mends quickly and please don't overdo.

Oh, Jackie, I am so sorry about Bob's fall. It's just unbelievable bad luck. Broken ribs are painful, I know from my mom's experience. Was he given effective pain meds? Please tell him he is in my thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery and lessening pain.

You do what you have to do to take care of yourself and Bob. The house and lawn and flowers--all of that stuff and more can wait. Both of you need rest. Reach out to your friends and neighbors. Isn't that an advantage of a small town, that everyone knows each other?

As for being as good to him as Bob has been to you, who has been the caregiver in your family, even your extended family? YOU. You give of yourself easily and selflessly, sometimes too much so. I don't think you need worry about not caring enough for those you love, especially your husband. All through your cancer journey, Bob has known you would do the same-- and more-- for him.

I dearly wish Joe and I were closer, so that we could be a real help. Please, please take care and don't overdo. Remember we love you.

I feel terrible about Bob's accident... please give him my sympathies!

When Eefy was a pup I thought it might be fun to take her for a run with me. Our run lasted for exactly two houses past our driveway, where I tripped over her leash. I chipped a bone in my elbow, but that is definitely getting off light compared to broken ribs! I hope Bob will be able to take it easy and that the two of you will get each other over this bump in the road just like you did with the last one.

BTW, I really enjoy the train stuff - thank you so much! I dragged poor little Moopy down to the railroad tracks with me today (although I took her out for a really nice lunch first) and we saw all sorts of good stuff!

Take care - and that means you and Bob both!

Poor little Moops knows all your passions...trains (wink) but she knows your first passion is her...the cute little kitteny Moopy you so adore. After Bob's fall i had a revolation of sorts..all of a sudden i didn't have a clue what i would without my care-giver/husband and i am so thankful i had him during this time.

Joe, you have been the best, taking care of my (our) sis Moopy, and I am so happy to meet such a kind soul as yours..like i said no one really knows until karma ( or the other shoe) gets ya. just sayin..i'm glad Bob has been there for me, as you have been there for yours and my sweet Moopster! Your a good one Joe, I will never forget you or your wife, my dear frind.

Gosh, so very sorry for Bob's broken ribs! Accidents like his seem to happen at the worst times...

Please take good care of yourself, and him, dear Jackie. Other things will have to wait; or, please seek help from whomever you can.

Kind regards, Susan

wow, that's tough. Hope Bob feels ok, I heard that broken ribs are very painful, even to breathe.
It's wonderful that he has done so much for you, but please try not to overdo. Some things can wait, so let them wait.
Make sure everything you do right now is "light duty".
Take care of both of you!

You are one tough lady! You have had so much to go through and now this. I had broken ribs twice (4-wheeler accidents) and I know it takes several months to heal. Yes, even breathing hurts. I wish your husband a speedy recovery. But, please be careful not too overdue it yourself. Maybe call the local boyscouts (their always trying to earn badges) and most churches have helper services. Now is the time to decided what can wait (this was hard for me because I kept a very clean house) and what is important. Where I live, I can call in my grocery list and they will deliver to my home the next day for a $10.00 flat fee. So I would call in 2 weeks worth at a time. They even carried the bags in. Maybe one of your local stores will do this. It's worth a call. Saves on a big chore!! Keep us updated and if I think of any other suggestions, I'll let you know. :) Pammy

Oh My!!!! I think when you put that shoe on the other foot, it didn't fit right and your hubby got caught in the leash! Poor him, poor you! Here's the "thing"...the dust can wait, the garden can be less than perfect, and BOTH of you can keep up as much as you can. Time will heal both of you, and then you can unitedly be thankful and work in the house/garden TOGETHER. Either that or Reggie and I can stop by and spruce things up a bit, if you'd like! We don't have any plans this weekend! :-)

Hugs,
Claudia

Ouch!! That has got to be really painful but the silver lining is your new appreciation for your man. And that's nice. I hope you can find someone to help with the "have to do's" and I hope you have the patience to allow the other stuff to just wait. After all, if the grass doesn't get cut, it's not the end of the world even though we feel it's part of the "have to's". I hope Bob is on some good painkillers and makes a speedy recovery and make sure you look after yourself as well.

hugs
jan

Dear Jackie, So sorry to hear your news about your husband. My husband broke a rib skiing a couple of years ago and I remember it really hurting him. Still, you NEED to rest and take care of you, too , even though a zillion chores are calling your name. Don't be afraid to ask for help, either. The best advice I've heard is, "Think about what you would say to your best friend, if she was in your position." Then let your answer be a guide for you. OK, I've preached my sermon. Love you, Lynn
