Hi, sister of Montana, was thinking of you today on your first day back on the job and wishing you good luck. When you feel like it, let us know. You are probably very tired. Your patients and co-workers, especially your patients, must be so happy to have you back.

Love, Moopy

Hope your first day back didn't wear you out to much. Don't over due it!! It's a big transition after taking a leave from work. Allow yourself time to ease back into your routine. Hugs....:) Pammy

I got a work release from my primary DR. stating i can do light duty and not work more than 4 hours a day (i'm still wiped out) and not lift more than 10 lbs.( lymphedemia and healing from burns). I took it in hoping to get on in patient activities, but the Director of nursing said "she's in MY DEPARTMENT" so I talked to her and she gave me full reins to start up a restorative program, which has fallen by the wayside in the last few years. I will be doing range of motion, physical therapy. with my elderly patients (hope i can keep up with them haha) I do this for about 3 hours in the morning and then I go back over and do a group exercise program before supper. (I live right across from the hospital so no problem splitting up my day.) It is fun, yesterday we played kick-ball with a beach ball when we were done.

My co-workers and friends were all happy to see me and i was so glad to be back. The only upsetting thing to me, was all of the questions about "did they get it all" it won't come back?" yada yada... I'm still not sure how to answer this I just tell them "I hope so" and I hope not" or that i'm just praying. I know i should have a mind set that I am a survivor and think positive. But does that include telling them that yes...I am done with it?

Anyway i was very tired when i got home and am hoping my energy will return quickly.

    Yeah for Jackie!
Jackie, I'm glad your first day went well and that you're in charge of the restorative program. That sounds like it's right up your alley. It seems that you like your job and the commute sounds great to me (I take a bus and the subway to get to work). I also think it's good that your work keeps you active, although try not to overdo it as Pammy said.

As for the questions, I guess your co-workers can't help themselves. I would handle them however you feel at the moment. The "I hope so" comments are good. You could also just smile and remain silent, or just say, "I feel good, thanks" without addressing the questions directly. They should get the hint before long.

    Jackie,
    First, so glad that

    Jackie,
First, so glad that your 1st day went well. And it sounds like this work is not only good for you but great that they are doing this for your patients.
Second, for those questions that get asked, I always say "Only time will tell".

I would be real wore out but mostly we did kick ball from our chairs and the exercises are chair ones also. Some are in bed and just do range of motion...but it's about all i can do also at this time so maybe we will get stronger together.
I definitely am not overdoing it haha..i have a nap before I go back at 4-5.
I hope all is well with you,
    Hugs, jackie

    Hello, dear Jackie!
Good for you, for returning to work - at step forward into your Life After Cancer Treatment. The program sounds like it suits you well. Am glad you have the opportunity to nap before your "second shift"!

Please continue to take really good care of YOURSELF, friend.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Working
Getting back to work was restorative to me. Finding the right balance has been hard for me, so I had my ups and down. It sounds like you work at a great place. By best wishes to you, Jackie. Lynn

I really know God had a hand in this. My residents and the facility are thrilled with my new program. I guess when one door closes another opens, It is not just good for my patients but for me also, as i do all my arm (lymphedemia) exercises with them and chair exercise is good for me also. I love Love Love my old people and it is very rewarding.

Thanks Moops, for starting this thread and thanks all my sweet sisters who replied. It feels so good to know that you care, i love you all.
    God Bless, jackie
