Mane and Tail Shampoo

The PA for my radiation oncologist recommended Mane and Tail shampoo for hair growth. I just wanted to pass this along--with the caveat that she said it worked for her son after he shaved his head for some reason or other. Not sure a man's shaven head presents the same challenge as a chemo-challenged one! Anyway, you can get it cheap at Walmart, and I'm thinking of giving it a try.

Yeah, it just kind of puts
Yeah, it just kind of puts some strange mental images in your head doesn't it? But as one who is already sick of being hairless after only a few weeks, I'm game when the time comes.

    Nioxin
I had a fellow chemo patient recommend Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner. She used it and her hair was growing quite nicely. I was told it is similar to rogaine. I know some hair salon sell it.

    Thanks for Nioxin tip
Hi, piseminger, I have seen that brand of shampoo at the salon I go to (USED to go to, sniff, sniff). The name was off-putting, but if another chemo patient recommends, I'm willing to try. I miss spending money on hair products, anyway. Insurance copays just don't have the same fun qotient.

    Moopster.......Confession......
I used Cornucrescine on my nails to make them grow faster and stronger, This is also an equestrian product.

Mane and Tail shampoo probably contains more Biotin than the human stuff, so it makes sense.........

Biotin is the key to hair and nail growth.

It can't hurt to try it. Hugs Jxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I guess you found some raw pots, Jackie. Now just get the Mane and Tail shampoo, and you'll be set.

You and Tasha may not be teasing me so much when I post the beautiful, flowing mane I will no doubt have!

should we go to the pet store?
So Moopy are you sure we shouldn't go to the pet store to find mane and tail shampoo? (Just kidding) Thanks for the tip.

I friend gave me a sample kit of Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatments. My hair is coming in (not curly as promised)and is as soft as baby hair. Also, no color change, my "salt and pepper" color is back.

You two are bad, bad. I should send you to an "Equine Center" store. Sister from Montana, you obviously are feeling better. That makes me happy!

Crazylady, I'm happy to hear your hair is coming in the same color. Mine looks black with some gray, and I'm just hoping the gray goes away.

    Yeah piseminger
is right. The wife of one of my husband's coworkers is a hairstylist, and for a get well present, she gave me a starter kit of Nioxin. Wonderful stuff and it makes your head feel so good!I started using it when my hair started growing back in. I don't know if it was the chemo,or a combination of the chemo and nioxin or what, but my hair came back thicker than it was before!
Never tried the mane and tail shampoo. I've heard that's good also!

    Almost makes you
wonder if everyone's hair comes back those colors after chemo. Mine was the same way, only now after a year it has some auburn in it too(but mostly grey).

I used baby shampoo - hair
I used baby shampoo - hair was soft and smelled good. Mine grew in curly and salt & pepper (was light brown and straight pre-chemo). Four months post-chemo I needed a haircut, at 5 months hair was hightlighted and at 6 months there was no curl. I miss the curl because it was so easy to take care of. Bad news...the grey is still there. P.S. I did use Mane & Tame on show dogs to help with frizzies. Never heard that it made hair grow. Good Luck!

    Rogain
My dermatologist told me that Nioxin made yourhead feel good, but really didn't do anything as far as new hair growth...i had been using it prior to chemo and had liked it...but she told me to use rogain for men...she said, yes, it will say on the box for women not to use it but there is no reason that women can't. I've started using it twice a day, and after two weeks i can see a difference!! YEAH!!! just thought i'd pass that along.
