Hello all,

I just got back from having an ultrasound done on my left breast. I went last week for a mamo and got a call 2 days later saying that there was a dense area that had some sort of mass and that I needed to get an ultrasound done the next day. Well today was that day and I tell you I am freaked out and scared out of my mind. I watched the ultrasound tech and all she would tell me is that most lumps or masses are not cancerous. The largest mass was about the size of a small goldfish. There were several masses and the tech said my doctor would call me with the results. I never had any pain in my left breast nor did I ever fell any lump or mass. From the looks of the ultrasound I have about 5 areas that are in question. If a person has breast cancer is it usually in both breasts or just one? I am so confused and scared right now I can barely focus. I have also had thyroid disease for the last 4 years. Let me just say that I was just diagnosed with thyroid disease 4 years ago. There is no telling how long I have had it. From researching the internet I have found that there is a clear link between breast cancer and thyroid disease and also I have a vitamin d def. that my endocronologist just found about 3 months ago. I am just waiting now to hear from my doctor and I am so scared. I have no history of breast cancer in my family and I am 38 and have only 1 child.

I am sorry that you are
I am sorry that you are scared. I also had a mammo that had microcalcifications, so, I was sent for an ultrasound too. They also did an ultrasound guided core biopsy at the same time, so, that I would know right away if I had bc or not. And, I did. I don't think they can know for sure if it is breast cancer or not until they do a biopsy. Do you have one scheduled? Let us know what you find out.

We've all been through what you are experiencing now...
but we got through it and you will, too. It's probably one of scariest things you will ever have to deal with, but you have us to walk with you every step of the way. Post when you can and keep us informed of what your dr says, there are some here that explain the med'l jargon well and take the mystery out of this disease.

I just want to caution you about reading too much on the Net. We all have done it, including myself, but soon realized that I was causing more fear to build up rather than resolving my fears. Also, some of what you read will be misleading and some of it will be simply misinformation. The best sources of info will be your med'l team and ACS.

There are several on here who have young children and they can tell you some of their experieces that may help you. Know, however, that being afraid is quite normal, but being a well-educated patient gives you some control and sharing with us gives you many friends--so you are never alone.

    Hello ohno......
Hello and welcome to the board.

At this point, the "mass" could be just about anything. If your doc suspects bc, after reviewing mammo & ultrasound, then he/she will have a biopsy done.
    Is there a biopsy scheduled?

Your ultrasound tech will not tell you whether or not she suspects that it may be cancer. That is not her call. So don't let the way she acted throw you off.

My breast cancer was missed for some time because I did have pain. And the docs kept telling me that there is no pain with bc. So pain is not a good indicator.

There is nobody else in my family with bc either. And I have checked back both sides of the family for 3 generations. I am apparently the trendsetter.

My very best advice would be to stay away from internet sites because there is so much misinformation out there. Instead, depend on your doctors to determine if there is indeed cancer.

I won't tell you not to be scared and not to worry, because I'm sure that it wouldn't help. Just take a deep breath and do what your doc asks as far as any tests.

Hoping for the best for you.

    be encouraged
I was diagnosed with breast cancer last October. I nor my doctors could feel it. It was in only one breast. Fear is normal but don't let it consume you. Many have gone through what we are going through now. My mom did have breast cancer and I am happy to save she is a 27 year survivor and still leaving. She did not have chemo nor radiation. What got her though was her faith and trust in God. God, my family, friends and even strangers have helped me through this. Please be encouraged.

    Be Patient
    Welcome Ohnonotnow

I know it is hard to be patient and not stressed at this time. I was glad they did the ultrasound for me. It was much more definitive than the mammogram.

I never had any pain or discomfort prior to discovering the lump myself.

I did get my results back in a couple of days. After the ultrasound I had a biopsy done on the lump before it could be identified as cancerous or not.

The best thing to do is probably to try and not stress too much before the results are in. I was scared too, but I told myself whatever it was I am going to deal with it.

Join this discussion board has been helpful for me.

    Sorry
Sorry you had to find us this way. Just remember that until you get the "official" breast cancer word that there is always the possibility that it's not. I have fibrous breast so every time I got a mammy this usually did an ultrasound. So just try and be patient, I know it's hard, but try to do something that puts your mind on something else. And keep us posted as to the results. We are all here if you need us.

    The waiting is the worst!
The waiting is the worst! Please do not to lots or any really research on the internet. THere is so much info out there and it will make you crazy. Unfortunately for us the ultrasound techs can not tell us anything. The one I had said she feels terrible sending people out to the waiting room knowing if the news is good or bad. I am hoping for good news for you when you hear the results. But to answer your question you can have cancer in one breast, but that doesn't mean you do.

    Welcome!

I got chills when I just read your intro, I joined this site this morning as I had my annual mamm. Wed. and the dreaded phone call late yesterday afternoon telling me I needed an ultra sound. It's scheduled for Wed. My mind has been reeling since and had to come here for some "sanity", I think as everyone else has said, this is scary, but they will get us through. I can't help think that coming here was a "sign" a very positive sign and regardless of the outcome, I have learned so much in just one day, how cool is that! :) Keep posting, express your feelings, we will get through this. *P

    Welcome ohno...
So sorry to hear the reason you found us but glad you did. I never felt a mass or lump in my breast either (It's hard to tell because I am fibrocystic) but a Breast MRI found my cancer. Mine is only in the left side (right is clear). I have had 7 previous lumpectomies which were all benign. I know it is tough not to be scared. I haven't figured out the secret to that yet to this day. The best I have been able to do is keep myself occupied during the "waiting" phases. Hang in there and keep us posted. We will be hear for you! :) Pammy

I got the call from my
I got the call from my doctor this morning and they said my ultrasound was normal. The nurse said all of the lumps in my left breasts are fat. I have never been so happy to hear my name in the same sentence with the word "fat". This was a wake-up call to me and I will never ever take life for granted again. I am seeing things completely different now since I hung the phone up. I feel that I have just received a second chance and I will never let a day go by that I don't thank the good Lord for letting me slide by. I do appreciate all the welcomes and the support from you all. I will keep all of you in my prays and I will think of you all often and will stop by the forum still. Thank you all for your support.
