edited March 2014 in Emotional Support #1
My mom was just diagnosed with some sort of abdominal cancer. She has been going through all kinds of tests and emotional rides since April. She has not had a meal since March. Just last week her ONC had her start Chemo. He told her if she does not eat the program will not work. She is very sick now and does not eat enough to nourish a bird. I try very hard to support and make things comfortable for her. It is very frustrating to see her in this state. I want her to eat, move around, be my mom and my daughters' mommom. I don't know what to do for her to get her strength back so she can fight this. Please someone help!

    Consult your treatment center's nutritionist.
    Angela,

After you talk with a dietary professional, you might try a commercially available nutrition beverage (Ensure, Boost, etc.) enhanced with vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. To reduce nausea, add a little ground ginger and mix in a blender.

My dad did this for me after I had not eaten anything for a week while receiving cisplatin, bleomycin, and vinblastin, only he added raw eggs and banana! It REALLY went down good and improved my appetite!

    Love and Courage!

    Hi
    Hi Angela-

I wish I had some great advice. My mom is battling lung, brain and spinal cancer. She won't eat and doesn't even want to drink anything anymore. I get so frustrated. All I can say is I understand. You have my thoughts and prayers.

About all we can get down her is a little Boost everyday.. at least that is something.. now, if we could only get even an entire bottle down her.

hi angela . I think your mom loose her hope.try not to talk about her problems and take it easy even if shee doesn't eat well .try to keep things that remind her problems away.provid her a comfortable place for rest and try to take her out of your home .do your best and be so strong and don't loose your hope and try to say prayers and saty your problems to God deeeply by heart .Don't forget precense of God in your life and try to tell your mom that will help her. I know that He creats us and He himself know how to help us .so there where to worry .God is here beside us and always take care of us and if He doesn't help us we won't be here now.so at this time the only thing that help your mom is takind to her and trying to make her happy.Don't worry my friend .I have a causin who has lymphoma cancer but he don't loose his hope of life .He is fighting against of the cancer.say your mom that try not to make her problems big and don't let the problems make her weak.be so strong.
    be happy dear
