Doing the happy nekked dance - I'm done! Don't have to see a doc for about 4 weeks, then I guess, unfortunately, they stick me again to flush this thing, I get to have a scan, and if that is clear, then this thing comes out of my chest....YEAH - now THAT will be the day for the champagne! Gotta say, if I wasn't so tired today, I would pop the cork on that baby!

    still freezing!
Mags - I'm still freezing doing the oxy dance! The plug is out for the last time (except for flushing) and no more chemo - I am SOOOO happy about that. The good news is that the temps may hit 70 next week - lol! It's hard to imagine the pool opening up in a few weeks...

I have to say this time around tho I have been drinking cold things - wierd eh? if I can get it passed my lips it doesn't hurt the throat, so this is good. The bad is that my hands and legs hurt. I guess it's all uphill from here, let the healing begin!

Donna - thanx - and our war wounds are not awful - it's a sign of survivorship! they are beautiful signs that we can live to tell about! Although I will never wear a bikini again...shoot, haven't worn one in years. Anyway - it won't be long before we are dancing nekkid for you guys too! I thought I would never get here!

Because you can now drink cold things.....just not touch them....may I suggest a gigantic straw and a nice cold bottle of champagne?? white wine?

You got there and when you are in it....sometimes it really does feel like you aren't going to get there but you did and just in time for black fly season too!!! ahhh such luck :):):)

    You Go Girl
For some reason the positive energy on this thread has reminded me of something I did in 2005.

I had stopped chemo and was doing my "alternative things" for 8 months and had gotten a few good reports previously but not great ones. We were going thru a drought that summer and the night before my testing I was so nervous and anxious, like you all can relate to. I had done some yardwork to sweat a little and burn off some energy when it started to rain unexpectingly and it was raining pretty hard with NO lightning. I have a river off my backyard that my boxer pup (yeah the one in my avatar) likes to multitask in it (drink and pea at the same time) so I keep a towel by my front door for the drying off ritual. My house is pretty secluded especially in the summer when the leaves are on the trees so no neighbors could see me unless they were in my yard.

Anyway I was watching and loving the hard rain and needed to take a shower and out of nowhere this usually very modest southern girl stripped to naked and out to the yard I went with my colostomy bag just a flapping. I danced around the yard in the wonderful rain and talked to my powers that be up above asking for, as always, helping me in making the right decisions (I never asked to be cured or anything like that, for some reason I thought that was too much to ask for). I will never forget the mental picture I have of my dog and 2 cats lined up in a row staring out my glass screen door watching me run around in the rain like I was crazy. None of them would join me and I tried.

The next day I heard the word NED for the first time and made my oncologist repeat it 3 times before I hugged his embarrassed self while crying happy tears. I came home and made a post about naked happy dances or something THEN drank a few Coors lights. After 2 years of not so good news it was wonderful to make the good news phone calls to my family and other loved ones and to make that post that wonderful Thursday evening in August of 2005.

SO I say Sherrie, take a naked happy dance if you can, it was actually an amazing experience. I've not done it since but do kind of look for that "perfect storm" again and just hope no one sees or photographs it.

Again enjoy and to everyone celebrate every chance you get, you just never know what tomorrow may bring!!!

    YAYAYAYA!
Way to go, Sherrie!!! What an amazing feeling when it's the last treatment!! Yes, it's going to feel weird when all of a sudden you are not going to appointments and getting the pump put on, taking the anti-chemo-affects drugs and feeling yucky! And don't be one bit surprised if, after a couple of days you have this real let-down feeling. That is totally normal... and it will wear off, so don't worry about it :)

It's time to dance, sing, eat, drink and be merry!! And you deserve it!!!

As for the poke for flushing that port out in 4 weeks... that's nothing!! It basically the same as when they flush the port at the end of each treatment, except the tubing isn't there, so it's just a little old pinch and the whole thing is done in about 30 seconds :) After all you've been through... the flushing out will be nothing :)

    You go, girl!! :)

    Hugggggggs,

    Cheryl

    Dancing...
    Lisa:

What a beautiful, evocative piece of writing.

I am thoroughly enchanted with your description of your celebration of life and healing. I can close my eyes and envision the sheer joy of your dance in the rain. (As an aside, I can't help but imagine your dog and cats sitting there mesmerized like George Booth creatures from The New Yorker wondering if mom has gone absolutely mad. Makes me laugh out loud.)

As a metaphor, your dance in the rain is particularly important to me. On Monday, when my husband's CT scan came back negative for cancer, I found myself at a loss on how to express my relief and happiness. (I confess that I'm a particularly shy individual.) What do you do at that wonderful moment--laugh, cry, scream, jump up and down? I love it that you hugged your oncologist. I've wanted to do that so many times, but he is such a brilliant and elegant man. How could I presume...

I wish you many many many more dances in the gentlest of rains--joined, of course, by daydreamer in her extraordinarily happy celebration of life.

    HUG your ONCOLOGIST
he would probably appreciate it! I hug mine every time I see him! I read in a book that a hug helps you to become more of a person to him instead of just another chart! At first he was kind of reserved, but now he hugs right back and smiles as he comes into the room. I always ask how he's doing and tell him I pray for him; his well being is important for MY well being!

    I agree!
My oncologist always hugs me first. Whether he has good news or concerns, he says "Let's start with a hug." He did that the very first time I met him, and I knew I had found the right doctor. Yes, he's brilliant, yes, he's busy, but he's also HUMAN. He likes the hugs as much as the patients do.

Still jumping up and down over your news, Sheri.... Vicki
