Thanks for opening another thread. :)
I have another question. My MIL tested for BRCA1 & BRCA2. She has ovarian cancer and is now replapsed for the 3rd time. :(
On her BRCA1 she tested negative in all catagories. In the BRCA2 she tested positive in the "Sequencing 5301 insA"
    what does that mean?

Also..What is the difference between BRCA1 and BRCA2?
Thanks and blessings to all of you. :)

    ANSWERS
    Marcy,
The best place to get those answers is with a genetic counselor. I do have that information myself but it is fairly long. I tested negative for BRCA1 sequencing. In BRCA2 I tested Deleterious - G267X (1027G>T). I imagine everyone is going to be different in each family history. My sister and daughter tested exactly like me.

BRCA 1 has different base pairs and coding exons than BRCA 2.

Try www.myriadtest.com for some answers. Or even google BRACAnalysis. Hope that helps.

    Hi Libby,
    Thank you so much

    Hi Libby,
Thank you so much for your reply. :) Another question. You talk about genetic councelor. Do we need a genetic councelor? My husband's MD is performing the BRACA2 test. Should this test be done by someone other than a regular MD?
I'm so sorry..I know these are probably silly questions. But, this is so new to us.
    Thanks again.

    Genetic Counselor

The MD can do the test but if you find that you test positive for a gene mutation than a genetic counselor can help you make sense of the results. She/he can also help give you your odds of getting another cancer based on the mutation of the gene and family history. My oncologist ordered my test and when the results came back with a mutation in the BRCA2 sequence he suggested I speak to the genetic counselor. I am glad that I did because she was very informative and helped me to make an informed decision. The website that Libby gave is a good one and you can also try the www.facingourrisk.org site. If is also full of information. Hope this all helps!

It tells them what to look for
Here it is, plain n simple. You take that report with you to the genetic councelor. That sequencing tells them what to look for. That is why the original test is more expensive they need to find the sequence. The other tests and visit with the genetics counselor are about 300-500 so way less. Hope that helps. I mailed a copy of the letter to all my family so they would have it if they decided to be tested. Blessing back to you. Hugs bonnie

    Just got my results...
I just got home from my appt with my genetic counselor and received the great word that all three tests came back negative (BRACA 1, BRACA 2 and LYNCH SYNDROME) My daughters are very relieved!
Marcy - I hope you get the same results for your loved ones!
    Blessings to you too!
