Hi,
Well here I sit waiting in the waiting room. **** went into surgery about 2 hours ago. I've heard from the nurse twice and he said all was well but they did not know how much longer it will be. I guess much of this is waiting, waiting , waiting. We are concerned about the enlarged lymph nodes on the CAT scan. I don't know if they will tell us anything about them today or if we will have to wait 5 days. We don't know how much we have ahead of us. We believe the Lord will help carry our family through this.
A bit more info on our family. We have 2 girls, 12 and 14. Our 12 year old is darling.. she also has autism and life threatening seizures. I thought we were maxed out just making sure she has a good life now..... her daddy (****) has cancer.
God has blessed us many times and is blessing us now with wonderful family and friends.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Aloha,
Kathleen

    Hi All,
**** is sitting up in bed and talking. He was in surgery 3 hours and recovery 2 hours. He is waiting for the nurse so he can get up and walk. He is quite determined, I told him no hurry. They did his surgery laproscopically and took out part of the colon and a number of lymph nodes (we'll find out the number tomorrow.)
Thank you for all your support.
(Kathi were was your picture taken? Was it at the Golden Horseshoe?)

    I am dancing and dancing!!!
Wow! Laproscopically is the way to go!!!!! I'm so glad he is doing well. But, you are wise to keep him from doing too much!

Yes, this pic is from Disneyland. My daughter and I went around Christmastime. This is only the first time I have been in the Golden Horseshoe at the right time. The last show had just left, and a gal greeted us and suggested we go sit 'up by the stage'. She later came by and revealed (don't know if it's true, but it was great fun) that this is the table/alcove that Walt, himself, would sit at and watch the show.

Glad everything is well with ****...now YOU get some rest!!!

Sounds awesome that **** was sitting up already after surgery! hope he feels better really soon, and yes, make sure he takes it easy! I am not sure what laproscopically is, but you get whatever works the best!

Very interesting about the Golden Horseshow.. I have never been to Disneyland with the kids, and wow.. I wish I can take them there now, too expensive though :(

    Hugss to you!

    Watch for deals....
Disneyland usually gets hungry for 'guests' this early spring time of year. They offer specials like '2 adults/children free' or Southern California residents discounts...we got our tickets thru my daughter's Junior College...saved $25 per ticket, for both parks...

I have lived in So Cal most of my life. Whenever we had out of town guests, off to Disneyland we would go...lol. This Christmastime visit is an annual one for us...just to get into the spirit...from after Thanksgiving thru Christmas, it 'snows' nightly in the park. We don't push to ride the rides, just to walk the park and see the sights...but, I must say, "It's a small world", deckked out for the season and singing Jingle Bells is pretty grand! Maybe this next Christmas for you and the kids????

It is good to talk about light things like Disneyland. Kathi, I used to work in the Golden Horseshoe as a teenager. Your are right, that is where Walt would sit. Donna, that would be so cool to bring your kids to Disneyland. I agree, look for deals.
We were there at Thanksgiving as our 14 year old danced hula there with her hula halau. I agree, It's a small world is amazing at Christmas.
**** is resting in his bed right now. The girls are with family and doing well.
    Thanks for the prayers.

    Hi Beth,
We made our way to Hawaii via cold Minnesota. :) We were in Minnesota for 4 years in the 1990's and decided it was time to get back in the ocean. Our family loves to surf, Hawaiian canoe paddle, hike and swim a lot. Hawaii is also a great place for our 12 year old with special needs. She has a hard time going into places (buildings) but loves being out on the ocean. We are getting good care here in So Cal but look forward to going home to our little beach house.

    Take me????
Feel lucky you're not in Minnesota now! I was born and raised in Philly, but moved to Florida and stayed for nearly 17 years, I hate the cold and the snow, and miss the beach so much. Being stuck in Minnesota during chemo is no fun at all. Of course I came here for love, and love is what I got, so as long as he keeps me warm...on the other hand, he wants to move to Minot ND.....

best wishes to you and your hubby, stay strong.

    One of these days!
I will definitely bring them to Disneyworld one of these days! hopefully I never get sick enough where I can't do a thing with them once I start chemo..that's what scares me the most..always being sick from it. My kids have never even seen a beach, but I will try and save every dime to put away and take them somewhere where they can forget mom isn't well! it sounds so lovely!

glad to hear he's sitting up
    Hi Kathleen,

I'm glad to hear **** did well with his surgery, is sitting up, etc.
What a tough thing for you to go through! I know I've always felt like my husband had more of the burden of my cancer just sitting by feeling helpless, having to pick up the pieces with our kids, house, obligations, etc. Sounds like you're strong and doing well with it- as best as you can, anyhow. How are your girls doing with it?

I, too, am jealous thinking about you going back to Hawaii! I've been there twice. I live in San Diego, though, so I certainly don't complain about weather- I just miss Hawaiian evenings on the beach. I'd like to go back there for vacation sometime soon, if we can ever afford it again! Did you say before that **** will be doing his chemo back in Hawaii?

Best wishes through this all- you'll do fine- keep up the chin and turn it all over to God- He's got your husband (and you and your children) in His hands, even when it doesn't seem like it. Someday, you'll be able to look back and see how it all fit into place like that- that thought is what keeps me going- knowing that someday I'll understand and see how it all worked out and that good can come from bad things. I'm actually starting to already see that in my life after a year and a half of going through this.

    Take care!!!!

    keeping warm
    Hi Everyone,
I know how it is in cold weather. I know sitting by a warm fire, wrapped in a soft warm blanket drinking hot tea and reading a good book helps some of those cold, cold days pass. I also figured out after a few Minnesota winters that our whole family was very light sensitive. If we had stayed there, I would have invested in some special lights that help take away the winter blues.
Lisa, you mention so many wise things. We know that Lord is with us. At times it is hard to feel like He has His hands on us and and then I will sing Praise songs in my head and I will be calm and a t peace again. Thanks for asking about our girls. As you know it is hard on kids. However, family is looking after them and they are really being loved on.
When we get back to Hawaii we have a great little church and wonderful neighbors. Our family will also take turns coming out in 2 week shifts (one nice thing about living in Hawaii, people like to come out to help:) ). We are in this to beat it.
Thank all of you for your words. As I sit near ****'s hospital bed you all give me great hope.
    Aloha,
    Kathleen
