Surgery and SIRT

Happy New Year!

With the New Year comes a new treatment plan. After 12 rounds of chemo (folfox+avastin), the lesions in my liver shrunk from 8.8 cm to 5.8cm, and two smaller ones from 2cm to 1.1 cm. Still too risky for resection. So my docs suggest that I have surgery first to remove the primary tumor in the rectum. Because of the location of rectal tumor, I will have permanent colostomy. I am cool with that. They also recommend SIRT ( or SIR-Sphere) to treat the liver lesions. It is a new tech and I am very curious if anybody has tried it? The docs explain very well about the procedure in my tumor clinic meeting. They have concluded that I am a very good candidate for SIRT. So, 01/12/2009 I will have the surgery then the "mapping" for SIRT. The SIRT will be done in the end of February. If you want to find out more about SIRT, check http://www.y90support.org

    Wishing you the absolute best with this treatment. I don't know anyone who's undergone it so I'm no help there but I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!
