My mom passed away from ovarian cancer. The surgeon did remove my ovaries during my 1st surgery, but I still have my uterus. Is there anyone out there with the same issues and what are the concerns/risk factors from the radiation/chemo? I still have my port and I don't know if I should have it removed. Thanks for any help, Pearl

If your port is working well and causing no problems, I would keep it. It is a pain to have it flushed every 4 - 6 weeks, but my opinion is that is easier then getting another if needed down the road. After a couple of years, I would onsider it again.

I have no idea what your situation is - I was stage IIIA - 2 lymph nodes and have been done with treatment since August 2008. I am currently NED. I had my port removed in Early October 2008. I have a lot of antibiotic allergies and my oncologist felt comfortable I won't need it again (I hope not).

I guess it is a decision you need to make based on personal situation. If they removed your ovaries - why - because of your personal history and they were there anyway. I don't believe, I could be wrong, you have any increased risk of uterine cancer. I know there is no tie between colon and uterine cancer. However, again, you didn't give much info, you should probably talk to your oncologist and if they aren't forthcoming, your gynecologist.

Hi! I'm assuming that chemoradiation is being considered for you in the uterus area? If so, i can tell you that my experience with the radiation in that area has not been good. No one has the exact same reactions to anything, and my radiation oncologist warned me of the side effects, but for me, they were not good. I am going to post about this tonight to explain what has happened, and to get help.

Factoring in that i'm alive, and my cancer has not metastasized, it was worth it.

    Best of luck!

    Hi Kodie,
My ovaries were removed in my surgery about 6 weeks ago and I still have my uterus as well. I am just getting chemo now - no radiation, but the only risk factors my doc discussed with me were about hormone replacement. I opted to take the drugs, since the risk of blood clots and such were minimal for me. Im also a non-smoker. Smokers have a bigger risk factor.
