Ok, done the 4 rounds A/C, bilateral masctomy, doing reconstruction,expanders and on Taxol,12wks going for 6th treatment 6th week, e/p neg, her2-neg, BRCA1 pos, has any one every heard of any treatment beyond the ACT and surgery, worried about surprise when I go back, my oncon is shifty.

    Hi Heather:
    Glad you are almost through, my question to my onc would be about the ovaries. Since, you've had a bilateral, you have a minimal chance that it will return in the breast/chest area, but what about your ovaries, since you tested brac1 positive? If you don't get a straight answer from you onc, you should schedule an appt with your gyn and see his/her opinion on this. After that, other than careful testing on a yrly basis and being our own advocate there is not much that can be done. Hugs, Lili

    Its a pity that you and I have the same type of breast cancer but I'm glad to find somebody here with the same diagnosis. I had right breast mastectomy on April 28, 2008. I will have 6 cycles of ACT at three weeks interval, and 5 weeks of radiation thereafter. I had a port put in and so far, I have had the first chemo and the second chemo is on June 13. Discuss with your doctor about radiation after chemo, as this type of breast cancer is very aggressive (another name for it is triple negative breast cancer), and only very few people have it - mostly blacks, hispanics and very few cocatians. Lili has a good point about your ovaries and you should discuss with your doctor. I had a radical hystectomy four years ago because of fibroids - that's one less thing I have to think about now.     Hi!

    Do you take anyone along with you to the Dr. appt? If not, see if you can get a friend or relative who is forthright and a bit pushy to ask other questions and maybe cause the doc to be a little less shifty.
    With everything they throw at us each appt. it's hard to focus on everything you need. Write your questions down and make sure he/she doesn't leave the room until all is answered so that you understand. It's better to have them think we're dumb than to get away with half an answer.
