I started my Taxol today, I was going to have 4 rounds every other week with neulasta shot with each. Today my oncoligist deceided she wanted to do 12wks and rounds but no neulasta shot. I would like to hear about side effects any one had that took Taxol, just today I have mild tingleing in my hands and feet weekness in arms and legs when I lay down I feel like I can't move, no nausea yet, I am already bauld from A/C. Also I am calling my oncologist if she would go back to the original plan, she is messing up my time line with my plastic sergon and puting me at risk for infection and more surgers. All so she can make a few extra thousand dollors, I had a very hard time and every side effect in the book with A/C and Neulasta, but I have meds ready that will control those that Taxol may or may not occur. And truthfully my husband and I can't afford twelve treatment. Any input would be great, Thanks
Heather

Hummmm....did your onc tell you why the change? Research changes things every day, but I haven't heard that more chemo is the trend. I had 4 rounds of Taxol, but with each had a neulasta shot. My white cell count was always below normal, at one point, we had to postpone chemo...but, if yours isn't, well, maybe she is trying to save you from the side effects....

My suggestion is to talk turkey again with your onc....ask for statistics to support her change...explain why you are questioning her...be honest...

Taxol was much easier for me than the AC. I lost my eyebrows and lashes, but generally it was a milder reaction. Except, I had a VERY slow infusion (6 hours) because I had a slight allergic reaction...also kept up on my 2 quarts of water the day before, day of, and day after infusion....REALLY cut back on the sides!

Hang in there...the Adrimycin is the one that really kicked me in the pants...and you are finished there!!! Yea!!!

    Hugs, Kathi

I had taxol, not many bad side effects with that, though each person has a different experience. I agree, ask questions, ask questions, ask questions! Tell the Dr. why you are concerned. Talk to plastic surgeon if there are problems with changing the timeline, or what the risk may be. If finances are keeping you from getting what your team (including you) think you need, check with your local branch of American Cancer Society, or your hospital, for sources of help.

Write down your questions before you go and take a notebook with you to write down the answers (maybe even take a person you trust to help...2 heads are often better than one, and an extra pair of ears to listen can't hurt).

    Hope it helps, seof

I just finished a 12 week course of weekly taxol. The s/e I have had were a bad headache the day after treatment and red and hot face, as well as continuing fatigue. I only had to have one dose of neupagen and didn't have to have any neulasta. I had 12 week course of a/c prior to the taxol. My dr. didn't give me any option of a 4 week course, but had told me from the beginning the 12 weekly taxol tmts would follow the a/c. I'm now trying to get back on track. I have CT's and MRI on Friday of this week and meet with radiation dr. to see if that is needed. Hoping to gain enough strength to go back to work this summer (have been off since Sept. 07). Hope this is helpful! Oh, by the way, my hair started growing back in while on taxol - doesn't usually cause hair loss.
