I had my bilateral mastectomy Monday and came home Tues. morning. I have done so well. And for the ladies who are awaiting this surgery....I had no pain. I have taken one Tylenol since I've been home. Oh...there was soreness, but that is certainly tolerable. My nodes were clear but the tumor was bigger than first thought so I will be having chemo. Just wanted to thank you all for your help and maybe to help someone else that is dreading the pain like I was.

I am scheduled for a mastectomy on Thursday. I hope I do as well as you. Were you up and about right away. Did you go to work. How old are you? Did you have some sort of drain? There are so many questions. Thanks, Arlene (fandaj)

I had a unilateral mastect and a reduction/lift on the other side in Nov. 2001. Y'all just have to be careful lifting and pushing for a while...just take care of yourself. Yes I had 2 drains - not painful, just annoying. Day by day, you'll heal! GOod luck and prayers

YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA!!!

    NAKED HAPPY DANCE!

I am so glad that you are doing sooooo well! Ask your doc how soon you can start streches...your muscles will need to be lengthened...I LOVED the 'wall walk'....

    Hugs, Kathi

Thank you so much for encouraging the rest of us. I am doing chemo first. I will do bilateral mastectomy Dec. 21st. The Docs say I should be out of hospital in 3 days or less. If I do as well as you, it sounds like Christmas should be painless. I have already informed everyone that I will be ensconced on the couch and will be expecting to be pampered and waited upon hand and foot. (I am generally not a patient patient, we'll see if I actually do it). I will be starting the process of reconstruction too, but it will have to wait till radiation is done before it can proceed.

Thanks again for the encouragement. Chemo has been very effective for me and side effects have barely been noticeable. I hope you do as well with chemo as you have with surgery.

    Best wishes, seof

Wow good to hear your good news granmagail....and glad to hear you folks there in the States get to stay in hospital at least overnight, here in Canada it's a 'drivethru' in and out same day, hours apart. Then homecare nurse comes. I am having my other one off Jan or Feb too......it's a good thing!
Great news, heal quickly hon and enjoy Christmas!

Just my opinion, but I would rather have them both off than to worry about cancer in the other one. Also...I'm thinking going braless while working outside in our hot weather! I have heard about people here in the states doing it as outpatient. I thought overnight was drastic! Good luck to you also!

Hi, just went thru the same. Mine was invasive ductal carcinoma stage 1 tumor was just over a centimeter. I am confused on whether to take chemo or not, its kind of a gray area, I go back to my oncologist Friday and need to decide. How big was yours. Glad you are feeling good, I have to admit I expected worse. Will appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks
