Quick Update On My Dad

His lymph node is enlarged due to the fact that the dr cut into the salivary gland during surgery. It may take up to 6 months for that to correct itself. Next the thoracic spine, the doctor felt that it has been there for so long that it is a non issue. He had all copies of x-rays from March 2006 to March 2007 and he (who happens to be the doctor he sees for the oral cancer) felt that there is absolutely no change, futher to that it is not related to cancer. It was reccomened to have a CT scan done to see what it is but he was told to not even think about it until he is through with his colon cancer. On to the next...the results for the CT are not in, my Father has been booked for April 17 to get the results and May 17 for his surgery. It seems like an awfully long time to wait. **** had suggested (BIG BIG THANKS FOR THAT) maybe going to a major cancer centre in the States to have the surgery done sooner. We live in Ottawa Ontario I am guessing New York would be closest? Or is 6 weeks an acceptable waiting time? Thanks again for all you insight. I truly appreciate it.
P.S. Sorry for posting so much. Newbies always have so many questions ;)

From a medical standpoint 6 weeks is probably ok. From a patient standpoint it is very difficult to wait that long. Sloan-Ketterling in NY is a good alternative but I don't know how that works when you are coming from Canada, insurance etc. They may even have a helpline where one can ask the question regarding the delay in surgery.

Way too long to get ct results. I think all of us agreed on that previously. No reason whatsoever to wait til the 17th for those results. I'd be calling every day and pestering the heck out of them. And frankly from your previous posts, I'd be seriously considering switching docs. Sorry, but thats just what I think. It's unacceptable. Also, depending on the ct results, the surgery date may or may not be necessary to move up. There is a major cancer center, roswell park in buffalo ny also , but sloan is I believe rated #1 here. Good luck

    Hi Paula:
We are Canadians as well (from the Niagara Region)and it is a formidible task dealing with OHIP...if you need any direction just email me..
Here in Canada 6 weeks for surgery is fairly standard (and in most areas very quick..my husband waited over 2 months for his inital surgery..)
Hope all goes well.would love to hear from you...
