I was just wondering if anyone has ever planned a fundraising event to raise money to help pay those medical bills. My dad is a stage 4 colon cancer patient for the past 3 years. I am trying to help my parents pay off the current 15,000 owed, thanks to our lovely insurance system. I tried researching but don't know where to begin. Any advice would be great.

Thanks to that foundation i will be getting a colonoscopy in the morning. They help pay for screening and for treatments ect. Best of luck to you!

check with the doctors, hospitals, etc. in their billing department. Sometimes they do not apply the proper insurance payment. I always compare what the medical field says is owed with my EOB (explanation of benefits) from the insurance company. Two months ago I caught a $18,000+ mistake made by MD Anderson Cancer Center when applying the proper insurance payments.

    Nicola -

One sort of fund-raising event I have seen done quite often is a "poker run". I honestly couldn't tell exactly how to pull it off, but it's a place to maybe start. maybe something as small as a car wash?

Is your dad on Medicare? He's eligible even if he's under 65 as long as he's been receiving social security disability for the last 24 months. Good luck and best wishes to you!

Call your local church....they are EXPERTS at raising money....also the United way....they may have some suggestions....or, even Dad's treatment center staff...
