edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
I have sigmoid cancer. A good Board certified Colo-rectal guy is doing surgery in 9 hours. They have found 1 met on liver, 2 cm. They can not get it because it is on the back side during today's surgery I'm scared but fighting. the plan right now is:
Surgery 9/1 for colon cancer

PET scan next week to look at liver

Meet with oncologist after pathology report the week of 9/12

Chemo / radiation plan developed

Meet with Dr George Fisher at Stanford on 9/28 (that is scheduled) as 2nd opinion for chemo. He may be lead and have the chemo delivered locally

Develop plan to attack cancer on liver. Maybe surgery, wedge section, radio abelation (?)or remove more liver

FIGHT like Hell..

I have prayed for you and will remember you throughout the day. I trust that the Lord will guide the doctor's hand throughout your surgery and will be able to do what is necessary to remove the terrible disease that has attacked your body. God bless you.

I know you are scared. Cancer is a scary disease. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers as you begin this new journey in your life.

There are many folks here on this board who have survived Stage 4 CRC. I'm sure you will hear from them soon.

I am one of those stage 4 cancer survivors that Kerry mentioned. I had 2-3 mets on liver found during the colon surgery. Th Dr. elected to leave them and deal with them after I recovered from the colon surgery (the largest was about 2 cm). After 6 months of chemo, they had shrunk 50% on CT scan and didn't show on PET scan, but we elected to do RFA (ablation) just to make sure they were dead. That ablation procedure was 2 years ago in October. I have been NED since ( I see my onc. today for bloodwork and to set up my next CT scan in October). It is possible to beat this dragon, and a positive attitude (which you seem to have)is a major part. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Mike

I will pray for you. I've been NED with stage
IV for a year now. They removed liver mets, found an extra one when they used the ultrasound during surgery, (3 in all). They ended up removing the left lobe and part of the right lobe of the liver and 36 nodes, 10 of which were cancerous. After chemo for 6 mo. there is no sign of the beast and I say thank you to God everyday. This site is a great place for knowledge and support. Good luck with your surgery and treatment. jams

Hi Impact (that does sound better than Zone) -

I'm clearly too late to wish you well, but I'm thinking of you thru your surgery. Mine was just 15 months ago, sigmoid colon, liver met, so know that you are not alone.

Concentrate on recovery from the surgery. Regardless of various post-op results Avastin is probably in your future, and you need to heal from surgery before you can have that anyway. So get slightly back to normal from surgery, then connect with your oncologist and begin planning treatment. In a few days you'll be doing much better than you are today.

    Take care,
    Betsy (another Stage IV survivor)

I am praying for you. You have an excellent attitude. It's okay to be scared. I would be worried if you weren't, but use that fighting attitude to beat this thing. Sounds like you have this all planned out well. I'm glad that you will be getting a second opinion. That is a very smart thing to do. Always remember that we are all here for you. You have come to the right place for help.

God bless you and your family,

    -Lee-
