I just got off the phone with my sister. My neice had a colonoscopy today and they found a polyp. She's 36 yrs old. She's had some bleeding off and on for a few months, and because of that, and what I am going through right now, she went straight to a GI doc. She also had some inflammation in her rectum. I am praying that her polyp is begnign....I guess the one good thing about my colon cancer is that it made her aware, and she didn't wait around and went straight to the GI specialist. What are the chances of this polyp being cancerous? I am so worried for her!

Mary

    Mary,

The chances of it being cancerous? 50-50. The chance of it being cured if it is? Good, now that she is seeing a doctor! I knew of a man my husband works with that had over 50 polyps and NONE of them were cancer!

Good luck to her and you! Janie

    Hi Mary,

I am glad that your niece went to the doctor right away. Early diagnosis is always good. If they removed this polyp during the colonoscopy, they might not have to do anything else except watch. Try not to worry and please do let us know about the result.

    Best wishes, Eleonora

Either way, Mary....you just saved her life!

Benign can become pre-cancer, pre-cancer, cancer....you know the drill!!!!

What an inspiration you are to her!

    Hugs, kathi

My budzos couldn't have said it better, Mary -

They most likely nipped it in the bud and that's thanks to you!

Chalk up one save for IzzieCat (this means you get to paint a polyp with a red slash thru it on the door to your car). Once you have 6 of them you become an Ace, we just spell it a little differently here (@$$)!

    Cheers
