Colorectal with liver mets?

They put my husband in the hospital today. They think possibly he has a blockage. His pain has been tremendous the past week. They cannot operate on the colon for another 2 to 4 weeks as he just stopped chemo/rads 2 weeks ago. Has anyone had this similar type cancer and problems? Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly and please keep him in your prayers.

    Yup, I have had 4 blockages post surgery...one required another surgery. They MAY hospitalize him, and insert an NG tube...and feed him IV...don't be upset, this actually made me feel MAJOR better!
    I know when I have an obstruction...4-5 hours after the pain starts, I have to vomit...

    I haven't had the same problem but when something is going on inside the abdomen it can cause a blockage with subsequent pain and usually vomiting. They probably have put in a nasogastric tube to keep the stomach and bowel empty and hope that it decompresses or corrects itself which it often can do. Sometimes there is no choice though but to operate if it doesn't relieve itself. Hopefully they can control his pain.

    The CT scan showed no blockage so that's good news. He is still in very severe pain. They are doing a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow. Hopefully, the doctor can then give us some idea when they will do the colon surgery and what the prognosis is. Thank you kindly for your response. Did you have liver mets? I'm concerned about the odds of being able to help him.

    It is very difficult for you to stand by and wait... I know. But it is the only one thing that you can do. It seems like they know what they are doing and I hope they manage his pain somehow. He should not feel pain in the hospital. There are so many different painkillers. Hopefully they will find out what is going on. Try to take care of yourself. He needs you, so you need to be all right.

    Sorry, chemo EYES...he IS in the hospital...WHAT an IDIOT I am!!!
    I was hospitalized for 7 days...if he does have a NG tube, and his throat is sore, ask for something called hurricane spray. It tastes nasty, but gets rid of the sore throat! Also, I made a bargain with my doc...3 pieces of ice an hour....helped ALOT!

    Thank you for your words of encouragement. They have determined there is no blockage, praise the Lord for that. They are doing a sigmoisoscope today. I realize I can only stand by and wait and do my best to keep him happy and comfortable, but it is so painful and frightening. I know I'm not any different nor special from the rest of you folks out there that have been through it or are going through it now. But I just don't feel very strong and right now emotionally I'm drained. I'll get back with evening and update with today's events - praying for good news!

    I really know how you feel. I know how hard it is to just stand by and wait. I have a very difficult time doing that due to my extreme anxiety, however, it seems as if lately, I've been forced to give up control and put it all in God's hands (my dad has colon cancer and my mom is recovering from a recent heart attack), so I am now used to tests, tests, and more tests. All I can do is pray and be there for my parents. I will pray for your husband and also that God gives you strength to get through all this.

    Thank you very much - yes, prayers are the answer - I don't know how people make it through these times without the Lord.

    He came home last night with a morphine pump - hopefully they can keep him fairly comfortable until they can do surgery the first part of August - don't know the exact date just yet. Please continue to remember him in your prayers - we need a miracle.

    I lost my Mom to Colon Cancer 3 years ago, just found out my Husband has Metastatic Colon Cancer,
    I Took him to emerency as he was in so much pain, found the cancer with a CT, he went into surgery but could not remove the tumor, as it is in his liver, and attached to his abdomen wall, It is the size of a baseball. CT showed more spots in his liver, Tomorrow we meet with his Oncologist and Surgeon, We are hopeful he will be a Phase111 Clinical Trial.
    At this point I am just numb, I just knew My Mom would make it, and now I have to go through this again.
    So I am back at the support groups, just trying to find answers, I know alot has changed with treaments in the last 3 years. just wanted to write.

    So sorry about your husband. My husband has completed 30 radiations and 6 weeks' chemo. They plan to operate on this colon the first week of August. Then sometime later they will do liver surgery to remove the 2 mets. He was dx'd on 4/6/06 and these months have been nothing but pure mental/emotional agony for me. I pray daily for the strength to get me through one more day and to be able to help him. I never thought I could hurt so much for someone - but when your best friend is suffering and you don't know what the outcome is, it's terrible! My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
