Babies after dx

Hi. I was wondering if any of you:

1) had doctors that recommended you not having any more babies after cancer dx

2) had doctors recommend not having any babies for the five years following treatment

3) how many of you have went against the advice and had babies anyway and did you regret your decision?

    Hi Patricia,

    I had no babies prior to cancer dx, and the docs told me that there should be absolutely no reason why I shouldn't have any in the future (if I can conceive that is). The only thing that was mentioned to me was to do with my j-pouch - babies not recommended within a couple of years of surgery, and natural births never recommended due to the risk of irreversible sphincter damage which would cause the pouch to fail.

    Hugs to you that you still can even consider this...I can't...but...
    1) I have two wonderful children already
    2) I was perimenopausal already
    3) I'm an old lady
    4) Now I no longer have the equipment
    BUT I STILL LOVE BABIES!

    Ask your doc, my beau (gyn) says that it depends on the cancer (mainly breast cancer, cause of the estrogen reception stuff). BUT make sure YOU are recoved first...pregnancy takes alot out of you....

    My doctor told me I could start trying in November after 2 years NED. That will be about 4 1/2 years after my initial diagnosis, although he did not say anything about that. I guess the reason is that after 2 years CTs, etc. would drop to every 6 months anyway, so going 9 months is not that much longer.

    Great question! I loves the BABIES!!!

    I had #5 while I had my tumor (unbeknownst to me) so after my dx I decided not to have any more.....BUT.....

    my sister was dx'ed with terminal cancer (I didn't know about staging at the time and this is how it was was told to me) and SHE went on to have a beautiful healthy baby girl 3 years after her dx and tx.

    she made sure her radiologist lined her insides with lead when they zapped her in order to protect her precious ovaries. And they did their job!

    Ya wanna know the kicker?? Her hubby, who was much much older than she had had testicular cancer in his younger days so he was only working with half the equipment himself! And they did it! (by the Grace of God).

    So GO FOR IT!

    Oh, my doctors never mentioned the baby thing to my recollection. They probably assumed I was done since I was 39 (HA!).

    Hi, I am a breast cancer survivor and estrogen receptor positive. Was wondering about pregnancy should I completely forget about it because of the ER+ cancer I had. I noticed you had written that your beau (gyn) mentioned that specific cancer. I originally didn't want to have kids but now do. Other possible complication is age I'm 40.
