Well, after much procrastination (it was approved a week ago), I scheduled my first post-CRC colonoscopy for May 17. But, here's a twist...because of the radiation potential thinning of my colon, they are going to PUT ME UNDER in the OR for the scope! Anyone ever heard of this?????
My gastro is the one who found my cancer, so I have great respect for her, but NOW I'm getting nervous.
Thanks for the ideas!
Hugs, Kathi

    Hi Kathi!
I would take a guess they are just taking precautions. I think if they were expecting something else they would have told you. Good luck!!! My prayers and thoughts for a great, positive, NED report!!!! Terri

Not sure Kathi. What does "going under" really mean? My scopes have been done under IV propofol - a med that is very effective for short procedures - which colonoscopies typically are. And mine are done in a hospital-like setting (though not a hospital) - so I wish you luck and also am sure you will probably be fine.

    Hi Kathi,

I have been put under for every colonoscopy I have had. I think it is fairly normal depending on your circumstances and surgeon.

Actually, I quite like it! You have a nice sleep and its all over.

    Good luck,

    Cal :)

    Hi Kathi,

They put me under for my scope too. It was a very mild sleep and I woke up very quickly. Went under quickly too. I remember saying "hey wait!!! I'm still awake here!". LOL. They said not for long. Good luck and good vibes your way.

    You talking general?

Well, I wouldn't worry too much - as my heros Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong always used to say "Eeenjoy dee drogs, main"!

    Hi Kathi,

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like the others have said, it's probably just a precaution. I'm sure everything will turn out fine. You will be in my thoughts and prayers that day!

    God Bless,

My husband has already had 1 post surgery colonoscopy but he had not had any radiation at that time. He supposedly had "conscious sedation" for both of his colonoscopies (pre-surgery and post-surgery). For the post surgery one, he had the endoscopy (stomach) as well. He came out of the last procedure down right "drunk". I couldn't tell he had had anything after his first, of course he had already been told he had cancer so that could have "sobered" him up before they brought him back to the room.

He is having pelvic radiation (7 weeks of it) for a pre-sacral recurrence, and I have never heard that it would mean that future colonoscopies would be riskier. Is this common, or something I should question when he has his next colonoscopy?

    Good luck on the colonoscopy.

Thank you all, I feel MUCH better! I hate the thought that I'm now different, but I guess I have to accept it.
I KNEW I would get support from my family here!

I have been "put under" for both of my scopes in two different states. First was done in a hospital and other in a ambulatory hospital. I was especially put under for my second with strong drungs when the gastro found out that I "tried to help" during my colon resection. Well excuse me for trying to help.
