BACK FROM VACATION

Hi All! Back from a spring break getaway with wife and kids. For those who are new here, I am a 7 plus year survivor of stage 3 rectal cancer. Disease free since April 1999 and considered cured. Still think about cancer every day, but am living a beautiful life, and one that I worked hard to keep (chemoradiation, surgery, chemotherapy). I ran on the beach every day over vacation and had more energy than I did 10 years ago (I'm 43 now). Got rid of the cancer and just kept getting better over the years. The recovery is a slow one, don't be impatient (I was). It can take years of healthy living to renew your body, but it can happen. There are so many long-term survivors on this site...for anybody new that should speak volumes of how wonderful treatment has become. I was saved by wonderful doctors and my own will to live! I keep running.....and running....and running.

  • Runner, I think of you and your story so often as Bert hits his three year anniversary of being cancer free (from tumor removal date). I only hope and pray and continue with all my heart to believe that he too shall be officially cured. Yup, you got it right though. Not a day goes by that I or he don't think about the cancer and the possibility of it coming back (he was stage III with four nodes involved) but then again, we could get hit by a bus crossing the street tomorrow :o)

Folks like you are an inspiration to us all. Thanks so much.

Hi Runner - you are an inspiration! I think my attitude is mostly pretty good, but a big dose of yours sure does help. Thanks.

Hey Runner..welcome back mate. And you know one of the very fine attributes you have? Coming back here to pass on the message that this disease does not need to make us all "run downhill".Just being here to tell others that life can go on is the very essence of a winner my friend. Thank you Runner for giving many, particularly the recently diagnosed the inspiration and will to fight on!
You get a bear hugg from me mate and a "peck" on tha cheek from Jen.
