Vissible breast lump

Dear April,

Please get this lump removed immediately! You must ask to be referred to a breast surgeon immediately. Don't waste any time. It may be nothing, but you cannot take a chance. I had a lump and a mammogram showed nothing. The doctor did not biopsy it and it was cancer. It was caught just in time. Please, please April see someone soon. Your doctor is not treating this properly. See another doctor soon.

April, ditto everyone else. MY lump I had for over 10 years....no changes on yearly mamo, so nothing was done. During diagnosis of my colon ca, PET scan lit up the lump. STILL no one took serious, until I became a BIG HAG. (I'd just been through one cancer that almost took my life, didn't want another to stealth get me!). FINALLY got someone to do needle biopsy. Much to everyone's surprise, not only was the lump cancer, but was already going out through the sentinal nodes!!!!! As a result, in for 2nd round of chemo (first for the colon) in less than a year. My prognosis is good, chemo almost finished. But I COULD HAVE DIED from it without me pushing the issue. And, by the way, 2 days before my needle biopsy (remember, I had cancer as it turned out) I had a letter from a mamo done 2 weeks earlier. The letter said "Congratulations, we see no evidence of cancer". (Not that this test is not effective, its just that it is just a place to start, ESPECIALLY if you are having symptoms)

Hi April,

I know you are going through a lot but hang in there. Did they press the area of the breast when they did the mammogram? They must do that to get a good look at the lump. If the ultrasound does not show anything, please do NOT wait another 6 months. INSIST on a biopsy. Do not leave until you have the appointment - no matter what they say. Six months can make all the difference. Good luck.

I highly encourage you to recieve a second opinion. You have located two questionable tissue discrepancies in your breast that must be investigated further. They may be benign, however you will have peace of mind. God bless.

I am a 33 year old BC survivor of almost one year. I went in to a Women's Clinic when my lump was the size of a beebee. I was told it was a clogged duct from nursing which I hadn't nursed in over 6 months! I was told it couldn't be cancer. So, I didn't worry about it until it started to grow rapidly into a large mass. I was still not taken seriously for over a year! I kept going in saying something was wrong. I was ultimantly told the breast pain and pressure was probably mastitis and to go home and run my breast under hot water in the shower. By then it was STAGE THREE BREAST CANCER!!! It was only after a second opion from another clinic that I was taken seriously! My mammogram, biopsy, and ultasound showed a large mass but NOT cancer. It was only discovered after it was surgically removed! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE if you feel in your gut something is wrong and you aren't being taken seriously...you know your body better than any doctor! Get a second opinion!
