I'm Planning on Survival

Hi fellow semi colon-ites. I had send an update a week or so ago about my cancer coming back and it now being stage 4 with tumors attached to the left and right side of the colon and one rotten bugger in the tissue by the colon. So far, no detections of mets to the lungs or liver. This is really quite new to me so I am still struggling to get up to speed.

I have read the beating cancer with Nutrition book and have researched many alternative treatment plans I could learn about as well as getting three medical opinions and I settled on the following.

I believe my cocktail to survival (I just like saying cocktail & survive in the same sentence) will be a 4 step approach. 1st. Traditional medicine. I started on FolFox with Avastin today, so far not so bad except I just start gagging. When the tumors shrink, I will do surgery to remove them. 2nd Diet. I have totally changed my diet. Thanks to a couple of you on this site for support and for helping me get started. No sugars, Immuno power for vitamins and as much green and as raw as I can stand it. 3rd. Attitude, I think that the boat is leaving the dock (plan for survival) and I need to be on it looking over the horizon not looking back. I plan to lean on anyone that will listen, offer suggestions and support, and kick me in the butt when that is necessary. I also plan to change the channel on the negative thoughts. 4th and most important is Prayer. I am learning to pray and turn over my burden. Not so easy for me but I totally believe that Gods plan will work – I have to let him. I am scared but feeling good that I at least have some direction to start with. On a side note, my partner and I just got news that our adopted son from Ukraine will soon have a brother. We have been in the process for some time to adopt a boy from Guatemala. During my infusion today we got a call that the final papers have passed the last court and he may be home by Christmas. I think God want to keep us busy so we can’t think up hopeless thoughts. Bless you all. I plan on being around a while and asking for as well as offering support.

Mark G.

Sounds like you are on the right path... I'm trying to change my diet too. I think I did too much too suddenly and then regressed back to some sugar. Sooo, good luck.

By the way, I am very impressed (and a little jealous) about your adoptions! My hubbie and I were about to try to adopt when my cancer came back and then we decided it would be too much for us to adopt a child right now. I am sooo impressed with you!! You a such a giving and caring person!

Let me know how the plan goes... I think you will suceed. I'm going to get myself back on my path... you have inspired me. Thanks for sharing!! :) jana

    Hi Mark,
I reckon you are right on track for survival. For a start you do not hope to survive ,instead you have chosen to survive, there is a big difference ,when you choose to survive your mind ,soul, heart and spirit are all focussed on what you need to do. You will make it and we will be proud of you as we are with all the heroes on this site ,Good luck Ron.

    Mark,

I am totally impressed by your post. I think you have tapped into the formula for success with this disease. I don't believe just "one" thing can make a person survive, it's a combination of all things good. Please post pictures of your new son...being a parent is the greatest job ever, and your family sounds simply wonderful.

    Have a great holiday season,

    Stacy

    Mark,

I like your approach to fighting this disease. I too am fighting my recurrance (for 1 year now)and you are certainly an inspiration.

With a new child coming soon you have so much to look forward to. What a wonderful holiday season you will have celebrating.

You will be in my prayers throughout your fight.

    Take care.

Mark, what a wonderful post! I, too, believe in attacking cancer from all angles and it sounds like you have all of them covered.

Congratulations on learning about your new addition to your family. What a Christmas gift!

My favorite word is "Believe" which doesn't allow for any hopeless thoughts. Keep on "believing" that you will be victorious in your fight.

    All my best to you.

I think that you have a good plan for survival. I am also back in treatment. I recently saw an alternative medicine doctor and am implementing some changes that he recommended including a change in diet to go along with chemo.
Congratulations on the soon to be adoption of your second son!

Hang in there Mark. It sounds like you have a lot to think about right now, but your attitude is great. No mats is also great and changing your lifestyle is another plus. I am thinking positive thoughts and praying for you. Keep up the good work.
