Has anyone gained weight after chemo? I seem to be gaining weight over the last few months. I finished chemo in July. I don't know if it is "Chemopause" or too much junk food. In the past, I have been able to eat pretty much anything without gaining weight. What kind of exercises can be done after a tramflap? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dear Ever1, I lose weight when I go thru chemo mainly because my appetite disappears for days at a time. After my first round of treatments, my appetite returned so quickly that I was back to my pre-treatment weight before my hair even grew back! I also know people who gain weight during chemo. I did go into menopause and aging will slow down your metabolism anyway. Junk food is never a good idea - you really need good nutrition to recover. As far as exercise, not sure how having a tram flap will effect you, once it is healed. Talk it over with your doctor. Maybe you can get a session with a physical therapist? Good luck.

Hi Ever1. I finished chemo september 2005 and lost a total of 30 lbs. This was the one good thing that came out of my chemo experiences. Since September, I've gained about 18lbs back. I hate it. My doc said its because of the steroids I had to take with the Taxol that was causing my weight to return so quickly. Did you take steroids? She also said after the chemo flushed from my body the weight will begin to come off again. No luck so far. As far as exercise, my doc recommended that I go back to the gym slowly and no hand weights just treadmill, bike or lite aerobics. Good luck in your weight loss

I finished my chemo treatment October 2003. I have gained over 40 pounds and can not lose it. I am also on Femara and my onc. said that will make it hard for me to lose weight, but to keep tring. I used to exercise regularly before BC and now I just can't get back into it. I don't know what kind of exercises you can do after a tramflap, I did not have that.

    Hi Ever1,
If you are on steroids such as Prednisone, you will more than likely gain weight. Once you have ended your steroid therapy, the weight should come off. God bless.

I agree with Kathy. I finshed chemo and radiation in Nov. 2003 and started on Tamoxifen right away and gained a lot of weight. I'm sure some of it is feel sorry for myself weight but the bulk of it I like to blame on Taxoifen. I too have not been able to get back into the exercise routine I had before BC but I am trying and hoping the weight will disappear after I finish Tamoxifen.

    Dear ever1,
Yes I've gained 80 pounds.I've tried to lose it and it just hangs on. I'm hopeing that someone out there will give us hope that this will all just be a bad dream.Afterall we have been through so much why can't they come up with something that doesn't make us feel worse. My doctor and some of the nurses said that it will all melt off just as fast as it came on after I quit taking the meds. Here's to hopeing and praying!!!!! Kat
