Radiation of Neck Nodes

Hey girls....finished radiation 2 years ago this past July. I had my neck nodes radiated at the suggestion of my radiation onc since I had positive nodes in the underarm. My dilemma is this: My throat seems more sensitive since then. Scented candles burning, Plug-Ins, perfumes all make my throat tickle and make me cough. Forget about it if I eat something cold! I'm coughing my head off! Has anyone else noticed this? I seem to remember my radiation onc saying something about this but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

Karen

Hi Karen, all your symptoms seem right. I had neck radiation 15 years ago. I have the same sensations you do plus decreased saliva. The worst is cold food, I have to drink everything at room temperature or hot stuff. I also have to drink alot of fluids when I eat or it gets stuck in my throat. Make sure your doctor follows up with thyroid stuidies. My thyroid was damaged due to the radiation (even though the shielded it.) About 2 years after completeling radiation I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I hope this helps.
