Hi all,

I was diagnosed with colon cancer on May 16th. On May 17th I went for a colon resection operaton (boy does that hurt). They said that they got all of the cancer, but that since they found lymph nodes that were positive, they want me to do the 6 month plan. I've taken two treatments and other then the weariness, I haven't had that many side effects. I kind of feel bad when I hear about the problems others are having and I am not. I'm 36 years old and a woman who really thought colon cancer was the last thing that I could have. I'm adopted so I don't know my medical history. My adopted family had cancer, my mom, grandmother and grandfather all died from some kind of cancer. I know that was 20 years ago, but I guess I'm still scared. Am I an idiot?

    No, your not an idiot.......and it is great to say hello!
    I am sorry that you have to experience any problems with cancer, but it will open your eyes in many ways.
    Every system is different and handles chemo in a pretty individual way; although I am thrilled that you are not experiencing many side effects.How lucky you are!!
    You know being scared isn't a bad emotion; I guess it is what one does with the feelings that matters. If I could offer you any suggestion, it would be to be thankful that you have made it this far, be really hopeful for the future, and live the best life you can - with love and compassion and laughter; I would bet you are already living with these thoughts. You have found a great site. Check in often!!!

    Hello There!!! Sorry that you have to be here but we are glad that you are!!! You are NOT an idiot!!!!! Don't apologize for not having a rough time with the chemo!!!! I'm sure that we are all glad that you are handling your treatments well!!!! This will be a rough road to hoe but just remember to take one day at a time!!!! Make sure you tal to your Dr. about anything that is going on and enjoy life and have a great summer!!!!

    Hi Bubbles,
    Welcome to the semi-colon club. If you were a stripper, you'd have a fancy new scar to show off! Glad to hear that your surgery went well, and continued good luck through chemo. Each person's response is different, but keep us posted, and if you do experience side effects, make sure your doc is very aware, and check here for help, too.
    Cancer is scary to everybody; you'd be an idiot NOT to be scared; but we are all in the same boat and rowing together helps. Judy

    Hello and thank God you are doing so well. I had my 1st surgery of April 03 and they found 5 of my lymph nodes affected. I did the chemo from May 03 to January 04 and I didn't get sick from it. I had the port removed in June 04 and in August 04 I had a spot in the same place in my colon and 5" removed. I am on Xeloda tablets 500 mg now taking 4 a day. The only side effect are the palms of my hands and soles of my feet are discolored. I can live with that. I haven't lost any hair or felt sick. I am a little more tired than before but hey, I feel good. I drank plenty juices. I am still working. You will make it. Keep God in your plan and He will keep a strong hold on you. I've tried Him and I know He is one awesome God.

    As everyone else has said, you're not an idiot.
    Be thankful that the chemo isn't causing too much
    trouble. I hope all you have to do is the 6 month plan. I'm new around here too, but it's
    been over two years since my surgery. Be of good cheer.

    Welcome, you will find alot of wonderful semi-colons here to listen to all of your concerns. Glad you are tolerating your chemo well, stay strong, and keep posting.

    Hi Bubbles, like you I didn't have much discomfort or problems with chemo. I finished my treatments in Nov. 2003 and except for occastional diarhea I feel back to normal. This website was a great help to me and I am sure you'll get lots of information from your fellow semi colons. Regards, Arlene

    Hi bubbles.....always great to hear of some chemo "semi-colons" getting thru the treatments without too much grief. Take heed of Judy's advice tho. If you have ANY concerns about your health while on chemo....any changes etc...you must be sure to tell your oncologist or the clinic nurses.
