Tamoxifen and Pregnancy??

I was diagnosed in 08-01. I have been on Tamoxifen since 06-02. I want to go off the Tamoxifen to try and get pregnant at 3.5 years instead of waiting for the five year mark. I am getting conflicting advice from my doctors, some of them say go for it, others tell me that a pregnancy will cause my cancer to come back. (I was ER, PR, HER2-NEU Positive with one lymph node involved) Does anyone have any experience or advice on this?? I am 32, and as far as we know, the plumbing is still working and the AC didnt kill everything. Only time will tell though. Thanks...

I have the same situation but have elected to wait the whol 5 yrs to finish TAM. My onc really hit home when he said if it's meant to be, you'll have a baby. You want to be alive to be a mom. I'm 42 and have 20 more months of TAM. He also said at end of 5 yrs, it's ok to try to get pregnant. Lots of prayers and good luck for you!!

Auzi, I was 28 when I had my first journey with bc. I opted not to go on tamoxifen at all as my Onco at the time said If I wanted to possibly get pregnant I shouldnt. chemo didnt kill everything, as at 33, I had my son. My cancer was er postive. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation the first time. I did have a recurrance at 36. It was in the other breast and a totally different kind of cancer. Did being pg bring on the cancer?? would it have come anyway?? who knows. I was on tamoxifen after my son was born and I got lucky enough to get cancer a third time while on tamoxifen...... I personally would say "GO FOR IT", but it is a personal decision. My son is now 10, and even though "the beast" just doesnt want to leave me alone, I wouldnt change a thing. God bless you.

Hi, I was and still am in a similar situation. Because I cannot provide all the information that was given to me, if you go to my first chats where several people responded and gave me websites to visit to do research, you will get some very helpful information. My screen name is chris1010 and it was around January or February of this year when I first posted the question. Now, recently, I posted another response that says" We got pregnant, but we lost it or something like that, but I was 29 when by the grace of God my lump was found, I had a partial masectomy, with 3 nodes testing positive. I had chemo and radiation and was on Tamoxifen 10 months before my 5 years was up and I got off, instantly got pregnant, but we lost the baby. I am still off and like someone else said, it is truly a personal decision that ONLY you can make, but I would say that if you have faith and are a believer in Jesus then start praying and getting people around you to pray and do some research, talk with you oncologist and ob/gyn and then YOU make the decision. Good luck and God bless.

Auzigal, go to page 22 or 23 and you will see my first post with about 8 responses and some really good advice, read up on those and go to those sites and just take your time and pray through this decision.

Thanks. I wish I had your patience. At this point, I just want to get on with my life and stop waiting for the other shoe to drop!

    Thanks...

    Thanks Chris,
I have checked out the web sites nd also the transcripts, they just had another teleconference on fertility after BC. At this point, after discussing it in length with everyone, I think that if I have as much of a chance of having an accident tomorrow as having the cancer come back just because I go off the Tamox for enough time to have a child, that the decision has been made and we will give it a shot. I know that there are no guarantees but your help has been invaluable. I am so sorry to hear about you losing your baby. I hope that you are doing ok. Your strength is an inspiration.

Sassy Sally, It is so good to hear a success story....even if the beast is a pain in the butt, if you can get through a pregnancy after everything that your body has been through, then it is successful. I know that there are no guarantees in life, and your support is great. thanks and good luck to you!

Thanks auzigal, I am here for that very purpose-to be an inspiration. Take each day one day at a time and just stay in prayer about it, God won't lead you wrong. I am doing fine, just working on getting rid of 50 pounds and maybe, if it's Gods will, we will try again, maybe not, but thank God I am alive and I do have a 7 year old beautiful little girl, take care and God bless.
