Ovarian Ablation?

My oncologist wants me to think about having my ovaries out, due to having alot of cysts while on Tamoxifen, and to reduce the risk of recurrence (estrogen positive tumor) I'm 40 and leery of the side effects of instant menopause. Anyone have this done? How was the after effects?

    Shelly, I had requested this done when I had my hysterectomy, but was overruled. Two yrs to the day, the ovaries were cyst filled and had to come out. didnt save anything on menopause or estrogen by having them an additional two yrs.
    Have it done. The effects of "instant" menopause are not that bad. Cold showers, fans do the trick.
    I am now 43 and that was 6 yrs ago. I am glad they finally took the damn things out. I didnt need them, and with all the recent revelations on Hormone Replacement therapy ( which I didnt do either) Cold showers are cheaper than chemotherapy anyday.

    Hi shelly,

    Not only would I have my ovaries out (I should be scheduled in the upcoming weeks) but since you will then be in menopause I'd ask to switch to an aromatase inhibitor like Arimidex or Femera instead of Tamoxifen. They have been proven to work better than Tamoxifen. Good luck with your decision.
