Well after months of test, chemo and wondering whats next the new Dr. we have decided that surgery is the next step for my mom. A year ago we went through surgery and treatments for ovarian cancer only to find mom never had ovarian cancer. After leaving that hospital and going for a second and third opinion we have found that it is a colon cancer. Since finding this new oncologist mom has had every test under the sun, bone scan, CT scan and PET scan, much debate went into wether surgery was necessary or if chemo would do the trick. Our oncologist said we are currently only dealing with one cancerous tumor that shows up, she believs this to be the origional primary tumor, now we know this is cancer we are dealing with so nothing is certain until the surgeon gets in there and looks around, anyway the PET only shows one tumor in the cecum area of the colon so the plan is to remove it and anything else he feels isn't necessary or may hamper her recovery , do a resection and hopefully have her up and around soon. She had a lot of surgical complications the last time but dispite this disease she is much healthier then last year at this time and they are better prepared for what could go wrong post surgery. The oncologist wants to wait until after the pathology report comes back and then talk about starting chemo again, she has been on Xeloda since Nov. when they stopped her ovarian cancer chemo. Her oncologist said she feels we are missing a good shot at a good remission if we don't do surgery since she has been dealing with this for a over a year and there is no liver or lymphnode involvement that they can see on her scans, I am praying that is the case when the get in there. I am asking anybody who can to please remember her in your prayers on Thursday, she has a strong faith and knows prayer and our belief that she will be ok is what got her this far. Thanks

Lisa

Thanks for posting about your mom. It sounds like the new doctor knows what is the best next step and is taking it. I pray that this surgery will be the answer for complete healing for your mom.
