Hi all, hope everyone is doing well (or as well as can be expected). Just wanted to let everyone know what a great company my husband works for. He works at the Hunt Valley Golf Club here in Maryland (Director of Maintenance). When the General Manager found about about Scott's recent diagnosis of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis and that he was not a candidate for surgery (which considers him terminal), they decided to hold a golf tournament in his honor to raise money for his alternative therapy treatments (not covered by insurance).

They are calling it the "Celebration of Life" and includes all day golf, box lunch, drinks on the course, dinner and a silent auction. Several business in the area are sponsoring holes and donating gift certificates for the silent auction. Members of the club (it is a private golf club) and staff are donating summer homes in Ocean City, MD for a week, paintings, jewelry and more. We just ordered 250 LIVESTRONG bracelets to hand out when people are seated for dinner.

We did not realize how many friends we had here in Maryland. We are originally from NJ and moved to MD 8 years ago. Scott is overwhelmed by the outpouring of responses ranging from friends, co-workers, members and even strangers.

Cancer is a terrible thing, but so much love can come out of it too! I guess I'm getting sentimental here but I just wanted to express myself.

As always, prayers to all.

Linda (Baltimore)

    Linda,

It never ceases to amaze me how kind and generous people can be! What a wonderful thing for your husband's company to do, however your husband must be pretty special too to bring such an outpouring of love and care.

How wonderful! I love the name of the event - "Celebration of Life". We should all remember to celebrate life everyday!

My very best to you and your husband. I hope and pray that you find peace and healing. You are certainly wrapped in loving arms there in Maryland.

    Linda,

I loved reading your message. It certainly says a great deal about Scott and YOU and how the community is embracing you both. HOW WONDERFUL!!!!!!!

If I lived closer, I'd be there chasing the little white ball and peeing in the woods. Sorry, that is what golf means to me. I usually play on country courses and trees are abundant. There are rarely enough bathrooms and we all know how important those are to us!!!!!! One of the staples in my golf bag is TP and plastic baggies.

I have a yellow bracelet and love it. When I am having a bad day, I rub my finger across the word strong and feel all of you that posts on this board. Mine has become my link to y'all, my family, and friends. The strength and power I feel is amazing and really does give me inner strength.

You didn't tell us when the tourney is so we can all pass on our endearing thoughts and prayers.

Kerry and Lisa, thanks for your replies. The tournament is on Monday, April 25. I did not post this looking for people to attend...but if anyone would like to, please email me and I will forward the information.

AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT FEEL ANY OBLIGATION. I just wanted to share our good fortune.

    Linda

PS: Kerry, my daughter's name is Kerilyn Rose but we call her Keri for short. Great name!

Linda n Scott. So glad to hear that his company is standing by you guys. It is always good to hear that people come together to support each other. Sadly it happens too infrequently.
You guys must be very well respected over there.....good on 'em!

    hi Linda,

that is so cool. Thank you for sharing this with us. That community support can mean so much. Even little offerings can seem like big things at a time like this. And this one is a whopper!!

I can attest to the financial drain alternatives can be on anyone's budget, and for us we had to sell our farm, but we ended up with so much more inthe process. God is so good!!

My hubby is a Director of Maintenance too (Facilities Manager)! :-) But of a hospital not a golf course--though he wished it were a ski resort instead! haha. :-)

peace, emily who lives under glow of the silver lining!
