removal of port

Hello everyone, I was wondering if there is much pain involoved with this procedure. I have had my port for a year and half and it has bothered me every day and can't wait to get it out. Has anyone else had trouble with their port? They have not been able to get blood returned for the past 6 months and I have finished my chemo and thank god all is well. Thank you all for your response.

    I loved my port, but after 4 months having it, I developed severe blood clots and had to have it removed. I was already a patient in the hospital and very miserable.
    The removal was no problem. Actually much less than when it was put in. The only problem I had was that I had to have the area drained as it would fill with fluid. My surgeon did this two times and then I was fine.
    But that's me. My body is very sensitive. I have talked with others and then had no problem..

    I can say with absolute certainty that I definitely HATED my port. It bothered me every day. Luckily, I only had mine for 4 months. I had no problems having it taken out. Almost threw a party. But I will admit that I was grateful that I had the port. I did not like the initial stick for blood but then getting chemo was a breeze!!

    I too was glad to have my port removed,it did make treatments easier,but mine was tilted and always hurt.Now there's just a glob of scar tissue there.What strange now is they used the port to save my veins,right,they can't use my left arm(mastectomy side) and the right side every time I go in for blood work and check-ups they have trouble with my veins blowing,so I end up getting stuck repeatedly.I really don't know what to think-#*8*!Glad on top of this that I don't have to live with that port.
    Alot more things could be wrong so I'll try and remember all of my blessings.

    No, very little pain at all when port was removed. Other than they were late getting me into surgery so the drugs started to wear off while the Dr. was finishing up. I let them know that I could feel it. :) I was very glad to have my port even if it was a challenge sometimes for them to make a connection. I kept hearing that it was "deep" or "tilted." Oh, well. Onward with good reports. Hope your's are also. Take care,

    Thank you all for answering my question. It is so nice to talk to someone who is going through the same thing you are. I am very grateful you all are there and I hope I can be for you also. I go in monday to have the removal done and can't wait to get it out. My port has tilted and dropped down from where it was placed and has caused me alot of pain. Love to you all and you are certainly in my prayers.
