Hi

I just found these forums, and they are really great. I am here to tell you about the forums I created. I am a Doctor and have 2 family members that have been affected by cancer: leukemia and prostate cancer. I will be specializing in Hematology and Oncology, and from personal experiences with my family I found that we do a poor job at answering questions. So I decided to create these forums, that you can post and view without even registering. I have a few colleagues that are participating as well, and we try to answer questions as best as we can. This is completely voluntary and not-for-profit.

Please visit www.cancerforums.net

I hope our website can be of help to many of you.

regards,
Leo

I just went into your site and looked around. It looks like it will be a very informative question and answer posting and is something we all need from time to time. Thanks for the great idea and hope all of us here will use this new site. Nancy

One of the most disheartening parts of cancer treatment is finding that health care providers don't have a clue about even the most common changes we encounter. Yet, here on CSN's sites, we find that most of those on the same treatment protocols have the exact same changes. Example: on taxotere, extreme bone pain in hips that prevents any hope of ever sleeping soundly throughout the entire course of treatment.

I honestly don't mean for this to sound rude, but I think you would learn more by coming to our forums and reading our messages here than we would learn by going to your forums and asking questions.

    Hi DeeNY,
I agree about so many having the same symptons and how frustrating it is when doctors can't give you answers. However, I did check out this site and what I found interesting is the fact that you can post questions to doctors. I have been surfing around the postings and in addition to the the doctors replies there is another whole bunch of women just like us that may not have found this site. While I love it here at CSN and have met so many wonderful people, I do like the forum that you can ask questions of doctors.

I too checked out this site and it looks like it will be valuable as a complement to this board, definintely not in place of it. It's like a free consultation with another Dr.--at least in general terms, not specifics of any case, of course!

    Hi Leo:

Your forum is interesting. After checking it out, I found that most of the answers given, ultimately refer the person asking a question, back to their own physician. Not a bad thing, in and of itself. However, most people posting a question, already have an attending physician and have likely been unable to get answers from them.

At any rate, it seems that you may learn a lot as you begin your private practise, from reading the posted questions. I'm sure that some will appreciate the resource but I agree with DeeNY711 in that you may learn a great deal more by visiting cancer boards like this one where we share our side effects, remedies, physical and emotional difficulties, try to help one another become good advocates for ourselves and yes, even go head to head with our docs when it's in our best interest to do so. If it's a better understanding you seek, then you surely will find it here as well as other similar websites.

Best wishes to you and the fact that you're interested in and willing to learn more is a HUGE plus for becoming an excellent physician. We all must remember that medicine is as much art as science. Regarding cancer, we also must remember that few questions ever have definitive answers.

    Love, light and laughter,

  • Doc, I'm afraid it isn't only cancer that doctors have a problem with answering questions. I firmly believe that part of a doctors training should be to spend at least a week as a hospital PATIENT before they are allowed to practice!!!! I think it would give them a whole different outlook.
