tamoxifen & uterine polyps

I took tamox. for 4 yrs for breast canc., my onc kept telling me vag. bleeding natural. He was wrong, had large polyps in uterus. Had hys w/tubes removed & doing great (2 mos ago). As for hot flashes - gyn. gave me Zyrtec (taken each night) and no HOT FLASHES at all. Zyrtec is an allergy medicine (antihistimine) being tried for relief of hot flashes due to hormones being removed and unable to take replacement therapy because of br. canc. Ask your dr. if it could help you.

    FYI: Any abnormal vaginal bleeding while on Tomox needs to be investigated. Uterine Cancer is a really real side effect of the drug. But uterine cancer is very nice to us, it gives us warning signs BLEEDING! Ignoring that is just unheard of. I am so glad your surgery went well and you are feeling better.     Wow- I am about 7 months into Tamoxifen and I was taking Effexor for mood swings of perimenopause prior to my BC diagnosis. Since taking it I have warm surges that may cause heat to radiate off my body (my hairdresser could feel it happenning and I didn't even notice yesterday)and so I attributed that to my Effexor. But, surprise I have been on Zyrtec for a few years now- please, living in South Louisiana, it's a necessity! I am really getting some hot flash help. I can believe it watching what others go thru. Very Interesting- thanks for the info stardeek! Candy

    You are absolutely correct re: abn. bleeding. I guess I just wanted to believe my onc. after all else gone thru. Instead it has made me doubt his diagnosing standards. I have a gyn. that I really like, and she has set me back on track, as far as trusting drs. again. Thanks, Deana

    I guess I've been lucky! I've been taking Zoloft for the mood swings since BC diagnosis. The Zyrtec was an added bonus. It has helped with the allergy season and hot flashes. Thanks, Deana

    I took tamoxifen for 5 years. I am now 11 years in remission, THANK GOD! Just last year had a total hyst., fibrous cysts throughout. Talk about mood swings!!! Of course I had Hot Flashes, or more like small previews of Hell! Thanks for the tip on Zyrtec. I have already been taking Effexor, which helps some but it has some side effects I do not like.

    Congrats! This is encouraging to me, that you are 11 yrs in remission. I was diagnosed in 11/99. I still feel like a newbie, and still in some denial at times. As for the Zyrtec, it has been great for me. Thanks, Deana
