spasms in shoulder

My bc was in left breast, had mastectomy and tram flap reconstruction last January 2003. Am now on Tamoxifen, following AC Chemo from March to May of 2003. Severe joint pain until about November, when it settled down some. Still get periods of joint pain every now and then. Lately, however, I seem to have developed a severe muscle (I think) spasm in my RIGHT shoulder blade area. I don't remember any injury or anything. But, when the spasm hits (when I sit down, it sometimes flares, or when I lay down; and sometimes, just walking and standing), I can hardly breathe because of the shooting pain. Has anyone else experienced something like this, and what did you do about it? I see my oncologist next week, so will definitely tell her about it. I'm just still in the "worry about every little pain" stage of this adventure...so, I'm a bit concerned. If anyone has any experience with muscle spasms in shoulders, and has some advice...I'm hoping to hear from you! Thanks heaps! Off to put a little heat on my shoulder... ~Barb

Barb, we seem to be within four weeks of one another as far as surgery and chemo. I had a modified radical mastectomy on the right side and a simple on the left side. In December, I developed a "pointy" sort of pain under my left shoulder blade and am so relieved to find your message here tonight. I thought I pulled a muscle during daily one hour long exercise sessions 4-6 times each week. It seems to abate whenever the gym is closed for a holiday or Sundays. It bothers me a lot when I'm on the computer. Grrrrrrrr... yet one more thing. Phooey. I was going to ask whether there are any lymph nodes under the shoulder blade, but chickened out. I'm at the scared to ask but not looking for trouble OR appts stage.
    Hugs,
    Denise

It's not your gallbladder is it?
Is pain related to when or what you eat?
    Check with doctor! God bless.

My gallbladder is g-o-n-e. History. But gallbladder is definitely a possibility if you have one, especially if the pain hurts worse in the shoulder when you bend over.
