Hair Regrowth

I finished 5 cycles of chemo on 6/18, had a lumpectomy and axillary dissection on 7/17 and should begin radiation around labor day. I was a Stage III, and luckily had incredible results. No residual tumor found and all 14 lymph nodes sampled negative. While it seems a trivial concern at this point, I was wondering how long before my hair starts to grow back? It has been nearly two months since my last chemo and I haven't seen any growth yet.

Congrats on finishing chemo and having such great results. My last chemo was May 31, 2002 and by early Sept., I was often leaving the hat off. By mid to late Sept. I had enough hair to cover my head pretty well. I think I got my first haircut in October. It's funny - I used to have really long hair - before cancer - now I keep it super short. Take care - Diane

I finished my chemo 4/28 and went to my beautician on 7/8 to have it dyed and really lightly trimmed. I had long dark blond hair before bc but when it grew back it was totally gray! I'm now sporting a short dark auburn hairstyle and I love it. It's really easy to take care of - so maybe I'll keep it short.

Good luck and I hope that hair grows in soon,

    Dear Chaggerty1
I think everyone is different. I was on chemo for 18 months and my hair started coming back almost a year before I was done.. GO FIGURE. I was totally BALD on mothers day and had enough hair by thanksgiving (same year) to go ''hatless''..Be patient.. it will come... Unlike the others, I have not even had a trim since it started coming back in, but have resorted to DYE coz it came back really curly and grey!.. the curl is Good the GREY is BAD..LOL..
    much luck and God Bless

My last Taxotere chemo was June 11. I've trimmed at least an inch off since then so it will fit nicely under my wig. The problem has always been the hair on the top of my head...it was thinning even before cancer treatment. I used to be able to rub a little generic Rogaine to take the shiny look of the scalp away, Rogaine (for me) grows some fine downy hair on the top of my head. As soon as I am off radiation, I'm going to try a product called Nioxin that my hairdresser has suggested. He says that he works with a lot of very young adults and children who have had good results with the Nioxin line of products. He said in the meantime, I should shampoo as usual and give my scalp a good massage as that will help stimulate the hair regrowth process.

I am so glad to hear all the responses to this question. I finished chemo end of jan and radiation in march. It seems to be taking me forever to get my hair to grow. Seems fuller at back but can still see my scalp on top. I went to my hairdresser several weeks ago and she said to wait another 6weeks to 2 months. Wearing wig in summer so uncomfortable. But I am going to try that Nioxin. Thanks for that piece of information Rizzo.

My last treatment was June 2, I have almost 1/2 inch of hair, and it's really thickening up. I used Nioxin faithfully, and I think it really helped. Just had my mom shave my neck because I was really looking furry LOL!!

I had my last chemo middle of Sept; radiation finished end of November. My hair is maybe an inch...just saw hairdresser and she suggested nioxin. do you order online/ did it help it grow faster? im so sick of the wigs.
