I haven't visited this site in a while. I am not sure why, but I read many of the messages today and felt so blessed by all the stories. You are all such wonderful people and helped me as I started this BC (breast cancer) journey. I am now over half done with my chemo therapy. I finished the AC portion and now am doing taxotere. I will be finished in September. God has truly blessed me with a wonderful support system of family and friends. NOW my question is: What happens after I finish my chemo? How will they (I) know that I am cancer free and the chemo worked? Is there a test they will do? I had a mastectomy in March and had no positive lymph nodes and that was my first answered prayer of many. Thanks for all your help and encouragement!!! Susan

    Hi Susan, glad you are doing so well. Time flies, before you know it you will be done with chemo. Yes they will do tests, bloodwork will continue ( mine was monthly for 3 month), my onc. did chest xray , bonescan and CT scan of pelvic area. Visits to the onc. are on a 3 month basis for the 1st year , then 4 mo, then 6 mo. Lots of bloodwork inbetween incl. the CA 27.29 bloodtest. I am sure your doctor will do the same. I had a mastectomy in 1998,6 mo chemo, reconstruction (TRAM FLAP)in 1999, a new BC in the other breast last year in Feb., Lumpectomy, Rads and 6 mo chemo again. I am fine. Both my cancers were ER neg. I am 59 but who is counting??     Hurray for you 1/2 way through! I just finished Cheom on 7/25/03 I had Taxotere and Carboplatin. From what I understand the Taxotere should be a lot easier to deal with. I too wonder how they will know that I reamain cancer free. I was node neg and had a lumpectomy. I start Radiation the week of August 18th. I would think that if you ask to have a CT scan, Bone Scan etc to assure yourself that you are still cancer free they should be able to do that for you.

    Hey, you're almost there and done! I just finished my first year in remission and I have 4 more years to go with the tamoxifen. It was really scared to think about the doctors being able to keep track of my health, but they run all the tests on time and I go in for the familiar pokes and prods every 2 to 3 months. I just started writing about my "cancer journey" to share some hope with some folks I know are going through this or have kin that are. It's been something to think about for sure. Here's to seeing you through all of this and joining me and others "on the other side."
