My mother has this cancer. There's nothing they can do. I would like to know what to expect now that they gave her 6 months to live. If any relative has seen there loved one go through this dying process please let me know what to expect.

I am sorry to hear about your mother. My father in law was diagnosed with this last Jan and his is still going strong--so the first thing is there still is hope. He now goes to the James Cancer hospital in Columbus Ohio for chemo treatments. So far, the only symptons he shows is being sick from the chemo. He has lost weight due to not eating and the doctors are amazed that he has lasted this long. He keeps a very positive attitude and so do we. As for what to expect, hard to say. He was given 3-6 months also, but again, I am not confident the doctors can give that time frame because I feel it is based on the persons health to begin with. If you can and your mother agrees, get her to a big city hospital and see about experimental treatments. She can always stop treatment if her quality of life starts to suffer. Also, remember your own health and read some information on Caregiver Stress as we are all feeling that now.

IT WILL BE TWO YEARS THIS MARCH THAT MY HUSBAND HAS HAD HEPATOCULLAR CARCINOMA. WE HAVE BEEN THRU ALOT SINCE THAT TIME. HE HAS HAD TWO CHEMOBOLIZATIONS IN NYC.WHICH WE HAD TO TRAVEL TO 4 HOURS FROM HOME EACH MONTH.I DON'T THINK MUCH OF BIG CITY DOCTORS OR HEALTH CARE THERE I THINK THEY ARE HEARTLESS AND WE ARE JUST ANOTHER NUMBER.THE SECOND TREATMENT GAVE HIM MORE HARM THAN GOOD. SINCE THAT TIME HE IS SEEING AN ONCOLOGIST NEAR HOME RECEIVING CHEMO TREATMENTS AS A LAST RESORT.THE DOCTOR IN NYC SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR HIM A YEAR AGO AND GAVE HIM 6 MONTHS TO LIVE AND HE IS HERE TODAY .A GOOD DOCTOR THAT HAS ANY COMPASION WOULD NEVER TELL YOU ANY TIME.HE WOULD JUST KEEP TRYING TO HELP YOU TILL YOU MAKE THE CHOICE OF WANT YOUR BODY AND MIND CAN TAKE.THEN THE ONLY CHOICE IS HOSPOICE WHICH WE HAVE ALLREADY LOOKED INTO IF NEED BE.EVEN IF YOU DON'T NEED THEM RIGHT AWAY THEY ARE VERY INFORMATIVE.I ALSO THINK HIGHLY OF THE ONCOLOGIST NEAR HOMEAND THE NURSES AND STAFF. VERY CARING PEOPLE.

What was the name of the treatment facility in NYC who treated you so poorly? Was it Sloan-Kettering?
