We are here....everything is fine...tired...
The flight was quite interesting. We reached LAX, and asked for any upgrades. The gal at the desk said there were none, because of our ticket status. Oh well, we had an aisle/next...our normal. So, we boarded, and across the aisle was a stretcher. That was great, we thought, because that meant no traffic during the flight. Then, our hearts sank. A HUGE woman was making her way to the seat behind Hans. Now, she was sooooo large, that they had to immediately move the gentleman next to her so she could wedge (literally!) into her seat. That left NO room for Hans to tilt his seat back...so, with true Dutch attitude, he got up to complain. Well, he was told that they would move her after takeoff. We sighed...figured that was just a story to start the flight, and then we would be stuck...literally..
Not so! They moved US, instead...to World business class! So, for the second flight in a row from LAX to AMS (the other was Christmas), we got the 'big seats'. The difference this time was that we got the full treatment, including steak and lobster for dinner.
I LOVE the chairs...I slept for 5 hours...We arrived in Amsterdam rested and well fed. I THINK I have convinced Hans that this is the way to travel...flights roundtrip starting in Amsterdam are so much cheaper, including Business Class, so we are discussing biting the bullet and buying two one-way LAX to AMS tickets to get us to AMS. Then, roundtrips from then on AMS to LAX. We shall see.
So today is relaxing, shopping for food and staples, and getting back to living in Holland. The weather is good...everything is so green! It is a bit cold for my tastes, and we have a handy man here now to fix the heating...he laughed when we shared that we just got in from Southern California...
More later, going for a nap...
Hugs, Kathi

Steak and lobster
Well, that sounds like such a treat. I've never flown anything but economy -- too timid to even ask for an upgrade. I'm terrified of flying and usually spend the whole flight looking for the drink cart so I can order those little liquor bottles. I also drink at the airport prior to flying, no matter what the time. I've sildled up to an airport bar as early as 8 AM. And I'm never the only one, either.
So, Kathi, another wonderful adventure in Holland for you! So happy that you and Hans got there after all of your troubles. You deserve a wonderful trip. Glad that the handyman is fixing the heat. I remember that last time you went ice skating. I guess more summery activities are in store this time. Update us when you can.

Because of my husband's
Because of my husband's height, he always asked for a seat with more leg room. He hated it if he didn't get it and the person in front reclined. His legs had no room except the aisle. He's had seats where someone's child would kick the back of his seat too. He hates to fly anymore. I've always hated flying and only did when I had to.
Glad you are there.0 -

I hate flying, I gather it is about the same to Amsterdam as it is to London......My Boss had all her relatives fly over for Daughters wedding 3 weeks ago.....They amazed me....they were just so lovely, good looking and cosmopolitan. They all speak perfect english as well as a lot of the Dutch accents, russian, spanish and italian.... I tell you, the english make me ashamed to be english..We Brits think everyone in the world should speak our language and we never bother to learn anyone elses'.
Hats' off to you Holland!
PS Kathi and Hans......Congrats on the nice flight and getting Home.
