Fatigue 6 mos out from surgery

I am still dealing with fatigue and get winded easily.

Am retired and am just worn out.

Is this normal for someone over 50 who had a right side partial who had robotic surgery ?

Thanks in advance.

    Fatigue

    Farm girl,

You noticed I did not say Old. I am 70 so you are just a youg kid. Can you have fatique 6 months out from surgery?  Yes, but not usual to be fatigued all the time. How is your health otherwise and before surgery? Are you overweight? How did you feel before the surgey? Do you sleep wellY Why did you retire so Young? The answers may be in my questions?

I'm almost 6 months out from

I'm almost 6 months out from my lap right nephrectomy, and I'm 67 years old.  I was EXHAUSTED (capital letters because that's how it felt!) to the point that if I made up the bed, vacuumed the floor, or loaded the dishwasher, I had to go rest. Seriously!  I was so tired all the time and could not even walk half a block without almost falling apart.  A week ago, I decided that I'd had enough of being so tired and that, since everything else was looking fairly ok, I was just going to do it!  So my darlin husband and I started walking...letting me set the pace, and if I only walked half a block before I had to stop and go back home, that was ok.  I just made sure that every day, twice a day, I walked to the point I walked to earlier...then added 10-20 more feet before I turned around and started home.  after only a week, I am walking 1 mile twice a day, and adding to it every time I walk.  I feel almost as good as I did a year ago!  In just ONE week!!  I'm excited and happy about how much better I feel.  Even if you are totally wiped out, drink lots of water, put on your comfy shoes, and walk!!  Even if it's just to the end of the driveway.  Then add 10 feet (or ten steps!) to that distance the next time, and do it every single day!  I'm finally feeling like a human being again and like this too will pass and I will be active and happy again!  I even went on a jet boat ride today!  WooHooo!  Got soaked to the skin and laughed through every minute of it!  Life is GOOD!

I had to retire due to

I had to retire due to fatigue after 31 years. Could hardly get up.

Have other on-going medical issues my doctors have been trying to diagnosis for over a year and most doctors drop investigation since the discovery og kidney cancer was suppose to be the cure all...it was not.   I want my  life back and back to gardening.

I have another investigating but they are not sure what since I have so much going on it is hard to pigeon hole.

I went from able to now walking with a cane....not the direction I expected to go...

I will walk and do whatever .

I will walk and do whatever . Then the next day will have problems getting up and walking.   It is like I need to completely rest most of the day.

I am not  lazy person but easily get wiped out the next day. I have a big to do list which I thought would be done by now and hardly made a fourth of it.

So maybe it is something else that is attacking my body.  The doctors have ruled out a lot like lyme and mosquito.  It is a bummer....

    Old Farm Girl.. is it

Old Farm Girl.. is it fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, epstein barr? Have they checked into any of those avenues? Do you get body aches and pains? I hope they find the answer and you get some help.  Is your thyroid ok?  This can all contribute to fatigue.  As well as allergies.  Of course, cancer is no fun either!  My mom was anemic after her surgery and she was tired then too.  Feel better!

    Some Fatigue clues

Are you taking any statins?  Any other major medications?

Have you ever had your C-Reactive Protein level checked?

Have you ever experimented with removing: 1) all milk and dairy products;  2) all grains (especially wheat and wheat products) from your diet for a few weeks?

    investigations

Good idea, Neil.  This bears the hallmarks of a food intolerance problem, doesn't it.  A really thorough elimination diet approach could pay a big dividend.

    Farm girl,

There are some lawsuits on the internet where alleged improperlly trained surgeons have caused nerve damage by using the diVinci.

    Check it out on google.

    Cause(s) of FG's fatigue

Given all the facts we know, it seems evident that this is a recondite, chronic condition that has nothing to do with your surgery or your cancer, either.  All of the additional ideas Ange has tossed in make very good sense to me too.  What is your BMI? Do you, or have you had, any weight problems.  Even if not, I  still wonder  whether you may have some form of malabsorption difficulty.

The surgery has apparently given you no relief at all from the fatigue, which continues unabated.  Your docs must be aware, from dealings with you, that you're not a physically lazy person, so to laugh about your condition is disgraceful and reflects little credit on them.

Can you get one of them to refer you to a fatigue specialist?  It is known that the most common problem across all of the cancers is fatigue but you're right in thinking that being wiped out all the time by the slightest physical effort so long after your surgery isn't right and shouldn't be occurring.

    Fatigue!

If your lymphatic system becomes sluggish it can cause severe fatigue. My daughter was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome when she was 10yrs old, we found that lymphatic massages and certain supplements and exercise, mainly rebounding helped her to recover. After being bedridden for over a year, she gradually regained her energy and her health. That may be worth checking into!
