Heroes
I couldn't agree with you more John. I admire those and many others on this site.
I also think that many of us are "Reluctant Heroes". When someone is backed
into a corner with few options and something to live FOR, the choices are
much easier to make (in my opinion). You either fight or roll over and give up.
We all have our own motivations for doing what we do. Kids, spouse, pets...
I also really admire those who accept their situation and try to help others through
giving support or by setting examples. People can and do beat this just like those
who accept things and live with it.
Of course we all have Pity Parties on occasion but is living like that all the time really living?

There's another great quote about life: It's not being about getting a Good Hand dealt in life, it's about playing a poor hand well...
Do I know how to kill a thread or what!

Sorry Phil. You couldnt kill the thread. I have to add you Craig and Maggie to my list of cancer heros. Long term stage 4 survivors are very important to others for hope and inspiration.0 -

Well...*sigh* although my Mom didn't survive cancer, but I believe, and I fully feel she was and IS a hero as well. I think everybody is a hero...those that are still struggling, those who overcame it, and those who lost the battle...they didn't choose to die...they fought hard too. And I cannot imagine the pain those people have went through...they are also superhero's....they're all...

My Cancer Heroes
I have several people here who give me inspiration, strength and hope. Winter Marie and Miss Kitty (Marie who loves kitties) for the wisdom and upbeat attitudes they have. There is so much love in their posts that I think of them as the heart of this board. Steved for the incredible amount of strength and courage he has. I honestly do not believe that I could survive the ordeals that he has had he is still so positive. And Pete (lost at sea) who tries almost anything to fight this battle and share what he has learned with the rest of us. He is currently almost halfway across the world from his home to wage his battle against cancer and that inspires me to go a bit farther than I have in my own war.
God Bless all of you (even those who don't believe)and thank you for what you all bring to this board.

Thank you for your kind words.
To me a cancer hero is one who opens their eyes each day and faces the challenges brought by the cancer diagnosis, either their own or that of their loved one. And those challenges take many forms. Not one aspect of life is left untouched.
To continue to put one foot in front of the other, physically and/or mentally, takes great courage.
Each and every person impacted by cancer is called upon to dig deep into their physical, emotional and financial resources...far deeper than any of us ever expected we could.
To do so, even in the face of an uncertain future regardless of how hard one fights, is courage beyond measure. And that is a hero in my book.
Love, hugs and hope to all.

Such love and respect for each other
I am new to this site and going through reading these threads, I am amazed how this awful thing called cancer has brought out the goodness, love and compassion in so many people. I finally after 2 1/2 years feel like I am among people who really understand what a battle it is to try to defeat not only the desease but, in my case at least, the fear of the desease. Thank you all for posting your experiences. You will never know how they have helped me the last few days.
Love the quote from Christopher Reeve. And the one about playing a bad hand well. Good luck to all of us!!!

You are right Sophie - your mom was a hero too. I'm very sorry she didn't survive and I'm sure she did everything in her power to try. I've read some of your other recent posts - you sound like a bright and loving girl who has been through too much in life already. Your mom must be looking down on you and so proud.0 -

Thank you for your kind words, I am humbled.
And for mentioning Marie who loves kitties, she is most deserving of such an award of "hero" if one exists. Do you know that when I mentioned I lived in California without warm gloves and hats that out of the kindness of her heart and expense she sent me TWO different pairs of gloves? One for every day and a thicker pair for opening the refrigerator? And a hat to keep my noggin warm as well as the rest of me?
Our hero's are a plenty on this CSN network and Marie is one of the many and tops in my mind.
To our hero's, the Mag's, Katherine's, Marie's, Craig's, Buzzard's and far to many to list.
We love you each and every one!
