Friends,

I was reading on the boards here that some had the product Replens recommended to them to counteract dryness.

I read the ingredients and this product has an ingredient in it which ends in "paraben."
I read that any chemicals that end in paraben are potentially bad for or can lead to cancer. This chemical is also found in most hand and body lotions etc.

Something to consider for all of us.....

According to a book given to
According to a book given to me by my Goddaughter who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 31, parabens are often found in shampoos, conditioners, bodywash, tooth whiteners and pastes, facial cleaners, sunscreens, moisturizers, toners, etc. Why are they bad? They have an estrogenic effect on the body and are linked to breast and prostate cancer. The book I am quoting from is Master your Metabolism. I have read almost nonstop since my diagnosis, and this stuff can really scare you. I am trying to make small changes slowly, starting to eat more healthy and organic and not use harsh cleaners, etc. Otherwise I will go totally crazy if I can believe everything I read! Which I do not. Another excellent book I found through an organization where I used to sit on the board and was a founding member, www.uniteforher.org has some good information on nutrition, yoga, accupuncture, etc. Another useful book is The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen. Interesting
I had no clue about this chemical in our products we use daily. This is one area I've neglected to research and guess I'd best get going.

Where do many of you purchase your toiletries and home cleaning products?

Jan, happy to checkout your website links as I'm into yoga and nutrition big time. I'm leary as well of many things I read and after a while, we just need to go with our "gut" feeling.

    Happy Super Bowl~

    Home cleaning products
    Jan,

    That is a good question.

I agree with you, we read so many things we have learn to just go with our instincts as well.

I read about the products for lotions etc, and that we should avoid anything that has an ingredient whereby the word ends in paraben. It seems most lotions etc have.

But if possible, I would prefer to find a lotion without this ingredient.

I am going to look-perhaps Whole Foods has something.

    Great Site!
I was given this link last year and haven't read up, but now my next mission. It has so much information on any type of products -- household, food, cosmetics, etc.

    www.ewg.org

Also, listed below is an area of the above site, which directly speaks about cosmetics. Cindy, you mentioned paraben, well it's right at the top to avoid. After looking at my "favorite" deep hand lotion, paraben is listed at the very end of the long ingredient list. What I've learned, the first 4 ingredients are the ones to really worry about as they've got the highest percentage of total ingredients in the product, the others possibly minuet amounts. Not saying to avoid any products with this chemical, but might not be quite as bad if listed at end. Guess we have to pick and choose what we will avoid and not.

    Thanks Jan
    Jan,

I will have to check out that site also.

I guess we just have to use a combination of our instincts, best judgement, and moderation.

I think that is probably part of the reason why oncologists don't go too much into detail about foods, because there is just so much information and contradictions out there.

I think the exercise and the emotional peace are very important parts of the puzzle as well.

    Have a good week all!

    Very interresting
    Hi all,
This is all very interresting and scary. My gyn md,radiologist all said replens is an important thing to do to promote vaginal health. Yikes is there nothing safe for us? I am aware of all the cleaning products to avoid but appreciate this information. Thanks for the education.
