Port inserted, why so much trouble [ just a vent ]

This is definitely not a serious issue but one where I am at the point of thinking my body just loves to make trouble for the rest of me....sounds silly doesn't it.
I have reoccurance of cancer. First time round I chose to do treatments by IV in hands, now I have blown veins so its a port... okay I go get a port am bruised, hard to swallow and neck well my whole body has to turn in order for me to see what i want..good grief. That was yesterday and today, the brusing, the soreness, still have to be careful turning my head o m goodness....all the stories i hear have been good ones, walk away with a little band aid across the incision, had to rest a few days but doing great... I look like i've been thru a ultimate fighting challenge and I lost.. I have to rest for 4 days... me 4 days of doing nothing..oh boy an other challenge.
I said am going to beat this reoccurance due to my strength positive attitude, and I mean it .......but this port has whipped me good so it seems.... OH MAN.. the littlest things can be the harshest.. If any of you reading this has had a port, hope yours was easier on you.. ( OH yeah i did talk to doc, he said i;ll be sore for a few days but should be fine) ......Brenda

    Dear Brenda,

You will be fine. Rest and recover. You had a medical, invasive procedure, and your body is reacting to it. Everyone reacts differently. That you are able to post is a good sign. When my husband had a port put in, he had redness and some swelling. He also spoke of the discomfort of turning his head and such. He did feel better after a week.

I wish for you strength and courage as you begin your treatments. Come here and share what you are feeling, thinking and going through. Will keep you in my prayers.

    agree you will be fine
My husband had a port put in place last summer for his chemo; there was significant bruising and soreness for a few days.

It has since been removed and healed nicely.

Praying yours goes just as well, tears2.

    Hugs!

My husband has had a port put in just before they put it in he stopped breathing, they had to put a tube in his throat he has been in ICu now for 2 days. It is awful, he can't eat, drink, talk. Don't know how much more this poor guy can take!! Linda

    port
    Hey Brenda,

I had a port from the fitrst. I had no problems with the procedure. I will tell u this thogh. Second time I went for my infusion it wouldn't work. They gave me heffrin and it didn't work. The had me doing aerobics (what I like to call them) in the recylner. Lift arms, lay back, do this, try this, try that. When i wen tup to have my infusion, they had to inject a special drug it cost like $1400. They did get it to work though. My port has tilted some for some unknown reason but it works and sometimes when I go for flush it decides to be a pain. It's a lot less painful than do the hand. The worst is that poke. And make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing. If you don't it's gonna hurt like hell! You know my prayers and well wishes are with you and you will come thru this again!!!

    Hugs,

    Don't forget ...
Don't forget to ask (demand) the numbing cream and the little numbing injection! Never, never let any procedure hurt! Best wishes!
