I was hesitant to ask for any info because it seems a trivial matter,

I had an open rp on jan2 and after 12 days catherer was removed , I did have some swelling on my groin , to be blunt sorry guys my balls , and after wearing pads and mens diapers , for the first two weeks , I think that caused my skin to get raw and red in the above mentioned area , it is very sore I have tried , dove soap to wash hebiclens after that , have applyed gold bond cream , cornstarch baby powder and tonight , unscented aloe vera lotion , nothing seems to work , , any suggestions has anyone had this problem , I realize men are dealing with much more serious issues , thanks for any help

I would treat as for diaper rash with plain vaseline and/or zinc oxide ointment.

Below suggestions are edited from Familydoctor.org

The key to preventing and treating diaper rash is to keep area clean, cool and dry.

If these things don't work, talk to your doctor.

Don't use creams that contain boric acid, camphor, phenol, methyl salicylate or compound of benzoin tincture. These things can be harmful.

Tips on preventing and treating diaper rash

    * Carefully clean. Use plain warm (not hot) water with or without a very mild soap.
    * Allow your skin to dry completely before putting on another pad.
    * Avoid baby wipes and soaps that are scented. The alcohol or fragrance can make skin irritation worse.
    * Use products that contain zinc oxide ointment (such as Desitin Ointment) or petroleum (such as Vaseline) to protect your baby's skin from moisture.
    * After bathing, pat dry with a towel rather than scrubbing it. Scrubbing can irritate sensitive skin.

    What if have an infection?
If you also have an infection with the rash, your doctor might give you a prescription for a special antifungal cream to use.

    What about powder?
Doctors don’t recommend using talcum powder or cornstarch. Cornstarch may make a rash caused by a yeast infection worse.

    Hope it gets better soon.

    Two suggestions, both of
Two suggestions, both of which should be discussed with your doctor first. 1) If there is still swelling in the testicles following surgery after normal recovery time, be sure that no complication, such as infection, has developed, either on the skin or from the surgical procedure. 2) If no infection and if OK'd by your doctor, you might try a small amt of over-the-counter max strength 1% hydrocortisone cream, topical application (to cleaned dry skin). Be cautious of using moisture barriers such as Vasoline, as they do not allow the skin to breathe. BTW, when it comes to PCa, there is no such thing as an embarrassing or trivial question. All questions are valid and important.

    In hot humid conditions
In hot humid conditions backpackers sometimes get severe chafting of the scotum- very painful. The best remedy is to clean and then just sit nake and let air and sunlite do the healing. I am not kidding on this. It works. In your case you would probably be sitting on a pad of course, but try it around the house as often as possible for a few days and see if it helps.

    This worked for me
Joe, I realize I am a little late since your posting Jan 30.
First don't be hesitant to ask on the CSN Survivors network. We have been where you are now. Cortizone creme worked for me. I also used some cream my wife got on prescription called Fluocinnide Cream USP, 0.05%. I also used baby powder to help with the dampness.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions , I am doing better , but still need to stay on top of the issue , even though I am limiting wearing pads I still seem to have a drip , but I know that is considered normal , I have taken to putting soft paper folled up to prevent an embarresing stain , I am fortunate to be out of work with pay so I can get to the bathroom quickly if needed , btw , I did with the help of viagra 100 mg reach I guess what is called the woody club , with a happy ending , so I hope that will continue but have seen that nerve sparing may seem to work , hopeful and thankful for the oppurtunity to write what is happening and progeress from surgery , I will be at the hospital feb 23 for first post op visit

good luck and health to everyone

    Dripping
    Hi Joe,

I had surgery in Feb 2006. I still use pads, theyre cheap and nobody knows but you, don't give it a 2nd thought. Congrats on the woody, I still can't and have decided it's way down my list of problems in life. I have my "bucket list" and I did that one.

    My husband had Davinci
My husband had Davinci surgery in July 2010 and about 5 days post op developed the most unbelievable swelling in his penis and testicles. It was crazy and lasted for about 2 weeks. As part of his surgery he also had an extended pelvic lymph node dissection and the Drs all told su some guys get that crazy swelling after RP. We bought bigger baggy shorts that he wore for a couple weeks. I am sorry about the rash,,,he did not deal with that, we got him a cool wicking jock strap to wear till the swelling subsided and really helped keep everything from sagging but also kept him from having his clothes chafe as well. Good luck :>)

    pads
One big (in my opinion) error that many make is to wait until pads are soggy wet before changing them (supposedly saves a bit of money?)
When I was in the many per day phase I tried to change them whenever they were wet enough to notice. Keep things as dry as possible.
Also, a wet pad is conducive to a urinary tract infection (had several). The pain of one of those will wipe out any pleasure of having saved any money.
