Stable is good. Sounds like your doctor is on top of things. Glad it turned out pretty much what you had hoped. Keep up the great attitude.

    Thanks so much Kim!
I really appreciate your comments + I try to keep my attitude up (not always possible!)

Fairly stable sounds damn good to me. To me it says you are keeping the monster in line until you can find the right chemo mix to kill it off.

I love the way you said this because I am determined to do everything I can to get rid of this stinking cancer. It may take awhile. Heck the one that may kill it off might not be out there yet, so I have to keep the monster in line until that happens.

    Hi Anne,

As others have said, if it isn't bad news, then it's good news! Of course, we're always hoping for "even better", but no bad is good! I'm at a similar situation as you now, sortof anyhow- CEA is rising, but my last two scans have showed mostly stable, with slight progression in some areas. I'm due for another scan soon. My onc ordered it today- if insurance approves it in time, they'll try to set it up for next week, which is my "off" chemo week. If not, then it will be set up for just after my next chemo round.
I had chemo and a dr. appt today & we discussed the "what next" if my next scan shows more progression. He wants me to look at a particular clinical trial out of Mayo (I'd go to their Arizona location). Until/unless I get into a trial, we're going to keep me on Gemzar/Avastin for now, but switch from the Xeloda back to the 5FU pump. I've had a terrible time w/ hand/foot syndrome w/ the xeloda & it's not supposed to be as bad w/ 5FU. We'll see...
Anyhow, I'm glad you came away from your onc appt feeling good, and somewhat relieved I'm sure. Keep plugging away!

    Hugs,
    Lisa

    Lisa, from your recent posts
I too have thought our situations are similar. I hope that for both of us CEA will decrease + progression will cease altogether + change to regression! I know you will keep us posted + I will be waiting to hear. I am on 5FU but have had little to no hand/foot syndrome; I guess I have been fortunate this way. I am trying to think of my journey similarly to one I read about where you "hitchhike" + use a treatment until it no longer helps, then go to the next one. I did come away from my appointment feeling good; I truly think my onc laid things out well. Thanks for your encouragement!

Fairly stable is good so I can see why you were reasonably happy with this report. Your onc is right, stay on this mix as long as you can before switching stuff around. As long as it is doing a reasonably good job, keep with it. Good job and I sincerely hope this mix contiues to work for you.

    Take care - Tina

    Thanks Tina!
I agree; I think my onc has the right idea. I hope this mix will work awhile longer, but if it doesn't my onc is already getting me to think of next steps.

Stable is a good thing, so I'm glad about that. I'm also guessing your onc wants to stay as long as possible on one, before trying another, so another good thing.
I hope stable stays and little bit of progression goes.
Thinking of you, and sending the most positive thoughts your way.

    Hmm...
Some progression? Like you, i'm wondering what they're waiting for? If there's any progression at all, i would think that means the treatments aren't working, and they need to try something else. I'm sorry the news wasn't better, Anne, but i'm thankful it wasn't worse. There seems to be a lot of bad news going around here with progression in particular. Sorry i couldn't agree with everyone else on this. I just don't see the point on continuing with something if it isn't reversing the tumors.

Hang in there, Hon, you're tough as nails!

It is so nice to hear from you! Thank-you for your input. I won't continue on this chemo for long if it isn't working. The progression was very minimal. I read on another thread that you are NED - that is awesome. It sounds like you are doing really well, + I am happy for you!
